BNow, I know next to nothing about real-life weapons, and I realize this is an arcade game for the most part, but it boggles my mind that you can put some sort of an attachment on a shotgun which allows you to snipe people from hundreds of meters away and kill them in one hit. Not even sniper rifles kill in one hit (unless they're head shots, but even that might fail because of the occasionally shitty hitboxes). I guess this might not be true if you play on hardcore servers, but I'm not sure. In any case, it feels like a balancing issue to me that hasn't been addressed.

Doesn't one hit kill beyond 10m either, same as the sniper rifles.

10m? Then I must have some sort of magical shotgun, because I keep picking people off from far away. For example, if you've played the game you might remember the map where you attack from a small island. The enemy is located in a small bay, with a big hill to one side (Laguna Presa, maybe?). I regularly climb up onto that hill and pick people off, one-shot kills most of them. The guys I play with do the same, so it's not just me... Weird :? Maybe if I played on hardcore servers that wouldn't happen, I dunno...

EDIT: I do use magnum ammo, however. Maybe that's the answer to my question. It seems to considerably boost the damage output of a weapon.

Spacechem is 50% off for a week (Making it $7.50) and You Don't Know Jack is 50% off (Making it $10).

Definitely going to pick up Spacechem at that price, torn on YDKJ. Heard it's kinda light on questions and the PC version doesn't have online MP, but on the other hand $10 and I like trivia games.

Damn I should've picked up Operation Arrowhead when it was on sale. I'm seeing some interesting mods for it. I only have normal Arma II.

Midweek Madness is 75% off all Kalypso strategy games -- too many games to list.

Any of those games any good? Whats this Tropico stuff? The concept of ruling a cuba like nation does sound interesting at least. Though since it was for the x-brick as well I guess any meaningful gameplay and depth is lacking?

It's basically a themed version of Sim City -- there's a demo you can try on the Steam client.

Tropico is excellent and well worth the price. Well, Tropico 1 and 3. 2 (Pirate island or whatever it's called) not as much.
The biggest unique part of Tropico is how politics plays into it. You have to make the various factions pleased enough to vote for you or you can try to rule with an iron fist with rigged elections/no elections which will cause citizens to turn into rebels.

TLDR summary: Buy Tropico. Tropico Reloaded and Tropico 3 with DLC are both good.

I've never played Commandos games but I've seen many recommendations. They're on nice sale now in that same Kalypso set.

What does the Codex think about them and which ones should i eventually get? Do they work on Win7 and is there a possibility in these Steam versions to up the resolution?

I heartily recommend all Commandos games except the one that's in first person. The third is a little meh and way too actiony, which kinda defeats the idea of the game. The first (and its expansion) and the second are where it's at for me. Very slick presentation, hard and enjoyable. The second is perhaps a bit easier than the first (which can get pretty hardcore, but that's a plus in my book), but that doesn't mean it's not enjoyable.

Oh and dear god why did they have to remind me of Tropico. That shit is cocaine to me, whenever I fire it up I can't put it down for hours at an end. Terribly addicting, especially when you play in sandbox and set the political situation on the island to be less stable, it can get really tense to try and swing each election in your favor.

At that price, that's a great buy. Oh, and if I'm not mistaken Patrician 3 is also on sale. Exceptionally addicting if you like that sort of thing, though perhaps a little too repetitive. Graphics are gorgeous, I love the 2D environments and the music.

Fuck yes, Commando series for like a dollar each!

Would you recommend Patrician III over IV? I've never played either, but they seem kinda cool.

I haven't played IV, but from the reviews I've read they sound similar.

My approach to the game was "omg micromanagement heavan", and while a lot of the trading can be automated, it can all still boil down to doing more of the same. Basically, what I'm trying to say, it's not for everyone. However, slowly gaining more and more wealth and renown and rising through the ranks can be very addicting, especially so when you become mayor of a city and can develop its infrastructure and prepare the city to defend itself in case of an attack.
