I dunno, might be fun. Any word on price? I'd probably go for it at $5.

No idea -- probably $10 to start with and I'm sure it'll be in an indie pack after awhile.

It does have cover, obviously you don't have to use it but my point was more that games that employ cover mechanics tend to have pretty awful combat in the first place. Of course I hate the third-person-over-the-shoulder genre of shooters so call it bias if you must. Again, it's been a while since I played (and it was only about four hours or so) but I remember getting wrecked if I didn't employ cover at some points as the EDF guys would swarm all over you like in GTA with the cops. I can refer to it as 'third-person-over-the-shoulder' but that takes some effort to type -- or I could just call a game that has cover shooting as a built in mechanic a 'cover shooter.' :M

Some great deals today/this weekend, prices in USD:

Civilization IV for $5 (ignore this, see below): http://store.steampowered.com/app/3900/

Civilization IV Complete for $7.50 (get this, Civ IV without Beyond the Sword isn't worth playing): http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4323/

Frozenbyte pack (Trine, Shadowgrounds, Shadowgrounds: Survivor) for $4.50: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6957/

"Zombie Weekend" games, namely, Resident Evil 5 for $15 and Dead Rising 2 for $20: http://store.steampowered.com/sale/zombieweekend

While I have reservations about getting Dead Rising 2 for that price, $15 for Resident Evil 5 isn't too bad, Trine is excellent if you like platform games, and you should be ashamed of yourself if you don't already have Civilization IV.

At this point I wouldn't buy anything assuming they repeat the Summer Sale -- chances are it'll be cheaper if you can just wait ~two weeks.

New Vegas is on sale for 75% off at D2D for $12.50 (might be region restricted). Since it's a Steamworks title you can/have to activate it on Steam. My hunch is that's an even lower price than you'll see during the Steam Summer Sale. I'm on the fence since I told myself I'd wait for the GOTY -- guess it depends how whether they'll discount the DLC in the future.

I'll wait for a hard copy GoTY version that will most likely be out during the holidays. It's only 6 months.

You can apparently use that above 15% off code at D2D to knock the FNV price down to around $10.50 if you're so inclined. Full disclosure: If you use that, I apparently will get a 20% off code for D2D.

Yeah I used one of those codes and decided to pick it up at $10. I figure it'll be another year before a GOTY edition drops below $20ish and, quite frankly, who knows if all of the DLC will even be worthwhile. I only found one or two of the FO3 DLC to be any good and even then they were nothing special. I heard Dead Money was solid but mixed reviews on Honest Hearts. After that there's only two more and I figure eventually they'll be on sale at Steam for ~$3 or so if I'm desperate to buy them. That and I'm not really a fan of how they do the DLC in a tacked on separate map as opposed to blending them into the story... and with the level scaling it doesn't really matter.

$10 for Fear 1, 2, and all expansions/DLC. Probably worth it.

Of the indie packs I'd recommend the variety pack. Atom Zombie Smasher and Machinarium are both pretty great, Capsized seemed quite awesome from the demo, ARES didn't look too bad, and I've heard good things about Swords and Soldiers.

Playing through New Vegas so far and it's nice to see Obsidian added a few RPG-esque improvements given what little they had to work with within the mechanics of Fallout 3. Decent but nothing amazing. Glad I waited for a price drop like this and really doubt I'll bother with any of the DLC. I think the original game content is enough to play through before I can't take anymore of the hideous engine/UI. And the 'Hardcore' mode is as laughably easy as people said.

Monday Night Combat is finally on sale at a price I'd buy it at, $3.75, unfortunately the community ended up dying like so many other indie multiplayers. If it had bot support I might have bitten on it.

Yeah. Even though I kinda like the game I wouldn't recommend it since the community's almost completely dead.

The weekend deal is Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga for 20 currency units. I'm pretty tempted after all the hype, but I hated the diablo-style "action"-rpg combat of the first one so much that I'm not sure I trust them to get it right this time.

Doesn't the summer sale start tomorrow? I think it would be better to wait and see if the price drops even more.

About DKS, I only read good things. Even skyway was fairly positive about it.

DKS is great. We even had a 22 page discussion thread about it. It's even Skyway Approved™.

There is a demo also if you want to try that first IIRC.

Hardcore Mode / Very Hard, while more challenging than Fallout 3, is still a joke. Cazadores and Deathclaws can pose an issue, but avoiding them is easy enough. Vipers with Grenade Rifles at the earlier levels can be deadly if you are caught off guard, but other than that nothing difficult.

The politics of the whole Mojave Wasteland and the factions fighting over it are pretty well done.

I get really tired of seeing fucking Radscropions glitch through the world only to reappear in some seizure inducing teleportation.
