How is that King's Bounty anyway?

Mind-numbingly boring. 90% of the time is spent running back and forth to get reinforcements and the came is completely devoid of any challenge.

The King's Bounty formula is basically this:

You find an enemy stack that conveniently blocks you from going to your objective (and there are no ways around). The stack is a little less numerous than yours and the AI is braindead, so it's not difficult in the least, but human wave tactics still make you lose troops. 5 steps after this stack is another, comparable one, which means you have to run all the way back to a place that is often four maps away to get new troops. There is no penalty for wasting time in this game, so nothing happens while you keep running around troop dwellings. You return to the enemy stack, and everything goes back to step 1.
Did you play on hard?

King's Bounty is great if you like turn based strategic combat -- if not, yeah, I can see how people would find it boring. AP + Crossworlds probably the only thing I'm getting today. I definitely recommend the Gothic Universe bundle for $5.74 even though I'm not a huge Gothic 3 fan. Arcania isn't worth even it's discounted price of $12. I might pick it up eventually for $5 but there are much better modern ARPGs out there like DKS. It's hilarious they still have it set at $50 list price.

Got myself Arkham Asylum and GTA4. Now if only they'd lower the price of HoI3 pack...

75% off of Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead 2 is a great deal.

Edit: damn, I do not have 100% achievements in L4D2 anymore. This will not stand.

Indeed.

I'm quite mad that I bought Killing Floor right when the summer sale started, but it was really cheap anyway.

Eh. I preordered Killing Floor and I don't feel bad about it. It's a good game, and they've done a lot of post release support and content for it.

New content now is mostly new maps, with no new perks, weapons or monsters, but the game feels well-balanced nowadays.

Did all the KF achievements on the first day. Nothing terribly hard. Actually the character got unlocked rather randomly before I had even completed the new map.

Ok so is DoW2 Retribution any good? I've heard you guys say Chaos Rising was pretty good.

I was going to ask if Gothic 3 was worth it but it was like 4 bucks.

I bought Torchlight. It is a neat little game; they are working on a torchlight 2, and then an MMO eventually. There are some small player mods already that add things like character classes, skins, weapons, and vendors.

Some more info: It is a simple action rpg dungeon crawl similar to the Diablo games, but with - in my opinion - a better art style. However, there is only one town, and no multiplayer. Co-op and multiple towns are being added in the new game.

Retribution is better than DoW 2 but not quite as good as Chaos rising.

Any opinions on Dwarfs!?, Delve Deeper, Capsized, and Star Ruler? I've got them all on my wish list in hopes of sale as they look interesting.

I played the capsized demo and it is pretty fun, but it seems short. The demo is like 40% of the game and was over in half an hour.

Dwarfs is great if you like racking up a score. Arcade mode is the meat of the game, where you simply try to survive and get as large of a score as you can in whatever time limit you gave set. I'd recommend it. There's a demo too, which I think gives you access to the 5 minute arcade mode. The longer arcade modes are where things get really nutty, when you have to manage hundreds of diggers at once.

Delve Deeper plays like a boardgame. However many teams of dwarfs have to get as much treasure (Either in raw materials such as gold, gems, and mithril, or by looting artifacts) as they can before turn limit. All teams are competing, and you can attack other dwarfs to take their treasure. Each team gets to place one tile on the map during their turn and move all their dwarfs. There is some minor strategy in deciding if you want to use the tile to help your dwarfs get to certain areas of the map, or use your tile to try to fuck up another team, either by diverting them or connecting their tunnels to an area packed with monsters. At $5 I'd say go for it if it sounds interesting.

Capsized as mentioned is super short. Keyboard and mouse platforming and shooting. There's a demo, so definitely check that out first. If you're anal you are rated per-map, so there could be some more gameplay if you want to try to get a top rating on every map. Mostly recommended.

Aaaaand I know nothing about Star Ruler.

So when are the EA sales usually held. It might be fun to try some EXTREME COLLAR-GRABBING for once.

EA doesn't appear to be part of the sale this year. They do not have a reduction on their catalog and only the Dragon Age games had a daily deal. Maybe the Mass Effects games will appear later but it's hard to know. My guess is that you should wait for Christmas.

Depends. If you want another Far Cry or Crysis, run away (but then I prefer it to Crysis). It's mainly a game that's full of good ideas but fails to pull off most of them. Gunplay seems good with all the variety of weapons, but it isn't so hot. Exploration is fun, but you have to either put up with the respawning checkpoints (which are pretty bad, but TBH not as bad as they've been made out to be) or find ways around them. MQ gives you an impression of C&C but there is in fact none whatsoever (but then, do you even want some C&C in your FPS?). Side missions can be occasionally fun but they get repetitive by the time you reach the 2nd half of the map. Variations on main missions seem like a great idea, but they usually boil down to "do the variation then do the mission as you would've anyway" and there is no real reward besides doing the extra objective. All in all I like it for the wide open world, the pretty graphics, and some of the missions are quite fun thanks to some unusual terrain, but if you try to just gun through everything you will get bored very, very quickly. I suggest either demoing first or only buying if it's for real cheap, because it's not a great game no matter how you look at it, and if you don't like it you'll end up really hating it.

Well it's only $4.99. I'll give it a try.
