You may remember that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, last year's AAA RPGOTY, was supposed to receive a second expansion pack, entitled Blood and Wine and set in the duchy of Toussaint. That seems to have taken a longer time than most people expected, but today, after the release of several screenshots last month and a flurry of leaks and rumors, Blood and Wine finally has a release date - May 31st. Here's a teaser trailer CD Projekt put together for the occasion:

As you can see, even the idyllic Toussaint has its share of murderous beasts in need of Witchering. You can read more about Blood and Wine in one of the many previews that were published today:

Blood and Wine's features include a new Mutations progression mechanic, armor dye for all you LARPers out there, equipment set bonuses, and an improved inventory UI. But its main new feature seems to be Corvo Bianco, a vineyard that Geralt takes ownership of and can spend money to upgrade. What, did you really think there was going to be an open world RPG released in 2015 without player housing?

And it seems like CDProjekt does not want to lose money on boxed versions any more. Digital copy of the expansion pass costs 100 PLN on GOG ($26/€22), while the boxed version of Blood and Wine alone costs more than that (120 PLN/$31/€26). Buying both Hearts of Stone and Blood Wine boxed means double the cost of GOG digital version of the expansion pass.

I guess it is digital for me this time. I am not to keen on physical Gwent cards anyway (Gwent sucks IMO).

The boxed version is just a way to sell the gwent cards because inside the box there is only a key code.

I totally get why people buy collector's editions with all sorts of maps, memorabilia, even real weapons or rings, but I've never understood the point of buying a plain boxed game. What do you even get these days, a DVD case with some booklet? It might make sense for people with a shit internet tubes I guess but even in eastern Yuro cheap and solid broadband is everywhere nowadays.

And I had fun with Gwent but yeah, it's too shallow to have a lasting power.

So is Gwent the Witcher version of Pazaak? And is Yahtzee still in the game?

This is the last. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are the two major expansions, and there’s 16 pieces of free minor DLC that throw in some new quests, armour sets, and New Game +

Pazzak is a BlackJack variant placing you at the mercy of luck. Gwent is a game of deception where each player can place one card per turn in any of the three slots (melee, range, siege) while attempting to guess and block the plays their opponent is trying to set up. The thing about Gwent is there’s little counterbalancing in filling a hand with the most powerful cards and no cost to massively outclassing an opponent. No resource system exits – the lowest unit costs the same as the highest to play. And yet, it’s probably because of this that collecting cards is extremely addictive. Every victory is objectively making your hand better and giving you more options, rather than just the latter. I've played the real-world version with balanced decks and it’s not half as satisfying.

I don't know, the end of the main game was such a good "the end" kind of thing, I really don't feel like continuing any kind of story with Geralt afterwards.

while you enjoyed the shitfest that was fallout4 that was lacking in both aspects alot more.

    thesheeep

Hearts of Stone was magnificent, even better than the maingame. Just start the standalone version of it and enjoy.

I wonder if the inventory changes make it more tolerable to play with a controller. or if they fixed the oversight that lets you still use oils in combat with keyboard and mouse by drag n' dropping over the weapon.

Sadly its not true for smaller cities. On my current connection downloading something like Witcher 3 will probably take two to three whole nights (to avoid complaining about slow speed during day from other people in house).

Speaking about controllers, it would be nice if we could select the button prompts we want between Xbox/PS. My dualshocks emulated as Xbox360 controllers work fine with the game.
