And that's why we can't have good stuff, 'cause the morons will buy anything as long as it's hyped/advertised enough. The idiot is part of the problem, but he doesn't realize it.
You just described the vast majority of the gaming populace. They'd buy a shiny turd if it had AAA marketing behind it.

Not to mention crying about "not buying again this time" only to buy another crap from this publisher again.

I'm going to install my GOG copy of Thief and play that to get the taste of that 2 minute video of this soulless remake/reboot/cashgrab out of my mouth.

I particularly enjoyed how he needs to use focus to know which objects he can shoot in order to create a distraction.

And some fuckin' twat on facebook tried to persuade me that this thing got more "medieval" elements then any old thief title, and is actually less steampunk'ish.

Nah, it was on the Thief fanpage, so go figure. A lot of white knights appeared to call me names and "YOU HAVENT PLAYED IT YET, HOW DARE YOU CALL THIS GAME BAD?!"

In the very first chapter, for example, you’re tasked with making your way back to your clocktower home, a route that takes you straight through the glittery guts of a jewellery store. Stealing a gem-encrusted mask becomes your primary distraction...

At least it sounded to me, as if the reviewer felt like reaching for that mask personally. That impressed me a lot - hidden loot like that that are easy to miss and hard to get. But on the video above, we can see that its not hidden at all - there's a huge NEW OBJECTIVE screen telling you what to steal. What Square Enix doesnt understand is that to make a game harder, you dont just allow guards to see you farther or kill you faster - you also have to stop holding the hand of your players.
I bet that mask is actually a macguffin that turns out to be central to the plot later on. That's why they have to make sure you pick it up. such clever plot. wow. much twistiness.

I don't think it looks that bad. HUD icons can reportedly be turned off, we've known that forever. Atmosphere and character movement look pretty good. Really my two big concerns are level design, AI, story, that sort of thing - but the core "Thief" feel does seem to be there in at least some capacity. Still feels more facsimile than the real thing though.

Really, this is the best I have seen the game look in some time, probably ever, compared to all those heavily scripted and commentated demos.
