To Wii or Not to Wii?

I am not a fan of nintendo consoles, and completely skipped gamecube. However, I have been hearing good things about Wii. Thus I decided to check out the codexian persepective for an honest and unabashed view! (with pix! no doubt)

So, how does this console rank with the 360 and pos3? Is it worth getting or should I stick with 360 and, later on, ps3? More importantly, any good rpg's on it?

RPGs? Doubt it. But it's fun. It's the type of console to own if you have friends coming around often.

Well, see when Wii was first announced I thought it was just a gimmicky console due to the controller hype. Sure I was impressed (and still am) by nintendo's foresight in realizing they could not comete head on with 360 and ps3, and thus deciding to change their product and at the same time MAKE demad for it by inducing a paradigm shift in people.

(kind of like how apple stopped sompeting head on with microsoft and started marketing with the image of 'trendy'and 'hip'. And now they are winning in the laptop dept, mp3, iphone, ipod, etc)

So Wii has become the sexy console of the new gen consoles. However while all that is good, in the end all I care about for myself is good gaming. Especially rpg gaming. I buy 360 for Lost Odyssey, Mass effect, and similar rpgswith the ocoasional action fest for fun. I will buy a ps3 for FF, Grandia, Dragonquest, etc.

Why should I get a wii?

I have a Wii.

I'd only suggest getting one if you either love Nintendo games (Mario, Zelda, etc.) or if you commonly have lots of people over to play all the time.

I've been hearing that the Nintendo games are the only games worth buying for it at the moment. Smash Bros. is a good multiplayer game, and the Zelda game is also pretty good. Those are the only ones I've played for it though.

I hear that season one of Sam and Max is being ported to the Wii.

That's pretty much been the case since the N64.

Well, it currently has 3-5 games I perhaps would play, then Billbox has one (that's coming to PC) and PS3 has none. Plus retro games, of course. I can't really see buying it, or any of the others. The retro thing sounds kind of fun, but I decided that I'm going to buy actual retro consoles instead.

I don't know how it's where you live, but Wii, it's controllers etc. are outrageously priced here. Like, console = 260€, Wii Classic Controller = 33€, and I'm not sure if it's necessary to buy better A/V cable for it but I'll vager it's something like 30-40€, and if you plan on playing with friends, you'll of course require more controllers (Remote 55€ and Nunchuck 30€). I could buy all that or have a pretty decent PC upgrade. It's like they wanted to remove the poor part of "Consoles are for the stupid and the poor.".

Stop reading/listening to the opinions of retarded people. The Wii is gimmicky shit, if you must own a Nintendo device get a DS so you don't have to look like a total tool while playing.

Well unless it's one of the games where you have to yell at or blow on your DS...

Go for it is my advice. It's a good party item if you've got few games and like to invite friends.
On the other hand, considering what games are offered for it, it's not a good "daily gaming" machine for people with any love for ambitious games

However it's cheap, and even if you find it not to your liking you can easily flog it on ebay along with all the games, at a small loss.

Here in the states I thought the Wii was hard to come by these days.
So "Wii-ing" (now theres a word) or not doesn't matter cause you aren't going to find one at the suggested retail price, last time i checked in February walmart had a suggested retail price as high as a PS3 for out of stock Wii, several other big chains had it priced at 600 dollars or more , and listed as out of stock also.
Maybe the supply issue has been taken care of in other countries but so far here in the States the Wii is still hard to come by.

I wouldn't get my hopes up the focus is on the 360 and PS3, the wii version is probably an afterthought

Hehe, you could spot a jap game even if it was purged of all anime crap and fully translated into english!
That game will foster penis envy though. I don't know if that's a good thing.

Strap-on remote, uh-huh. We thought that Wii was the perfect porn game console since the remote only requires one hand potentially, like a computer's mouse, but that's something. I wonder when there'll be a game called "Wii Fuck".
