Lem's Solaris is probably my favorite sci-fi book. That's another recommendation, Colin!

I've personally been catching up and re-reading a lot of Dying Earth slash Torment inspiration books. Read Lord of Light and Canticle for Liebowitz, currently in Tales of a Dying Earth (boy, Vance is sure in love with his thesaurus. As a disciple of Orwell...hate), next up are Book of the New Sun and Viriconium.
Any new paypal numbers?

On the subject of books, if anyone's interested Colin's book Oathbreaker is actually free now on Amazon, the kindle version mind you. Stumbled across it just now.

Gonna give it a go tonight when i go to bed, is it any good?

I just bought: 'Oathbreaker, Book 1: The Knight's Tale' by Colin McComb
www.amazon.com
A young knight, surgically augmented by the secretive Council of Magi, discovers a highly placed conspiracy aimed at the heart of the Empire of Terona. Foresworn and forced to choose between his oath and his duty, he flees the capital with the king's infant daughter, the last surviving member of the dynasty. Called a traitor, and with the might of the Empire pursuing him, he must seek friends who can help him to...

For some reason I always mix up Book of the New Sun and The Dragon Waiting (which I prefer)...

Gonna give it a go tonight when i go to bed, is it any good?
No idea, just got it myself. And have a few other books on my list that need reading first.

Its easy to read. It flows nicely. Setting is interesting, the plot is alright... its kinda like a good action game. Or a movie.
The only thing i found kinda wrong is the names of two places that are mentioned at the very end which you will recognize easily and are homage to another author.

... or atleast i think thats the end, because the story seemed a bit short to me.
but that may be because it reads so well.

Read the first couple of Chapters last night, can't say i enjoyed the writing style. He writes exactly how he speaks, lot's of exposition and dramatic pauses, also didn't help that the names all sounded cheesy:The Knights Elite, the Knights Faithful, the Armored zeppelins, the Metal horses and more.

Story does sound interesting tho, maybe after the first chapters the writer will try to cram every little detail and start writing in a more minimalistic style.

That bothered you? I barely noticed any of that seeing its all an intro and exposition of the setting, while the names are what you would expect... in such a setup.
The rest of the story takes a markedly less epic and more down to earth tone, where epic potential is used with measure, sparely, which i liked and for me - read well and quickly without any facepalms or obvious mistakes in the setup of any situations.
As i said, just like a decent action movie that is nothing super incredible, but doesnt make you feel disgusted with whole humanity like some hollywood blockbusters do.

Unlike, for example, Scott Bakers overblown ego wankery and bullshit and total stupidity in his series "Prince of Nothing".
Which is superficially "better" or wrapped in a better, epic, much more complicated setting, pretentious language and writing style - while inside all of that glittery wrapping its plot, characters and events are a pile of cheap, screaming stupid shit.

Surely, being somewhere in the middle between awesomely incredibly amazing and totally utter shit can be considered good?
Though I cant really say anything for the whole series or Colins overall quality of writing seeing how short the story felt, seeing how all i saw was introduction of the whole plot. And one story, dealing mostly with introduction and plot setup is not enough to judge the complete overall quality of the writer.

Not on the codex of course, but i am speaking theoretically here.

Here's a short review I posted after reading this book.

I pretty much agree with your review, tho i'm still at the start of the book. I think the main problem was down to the lack of a good editor.

The dialogues and the weird use (or lack of) of punctuation made it hard to read. Lots of long paragraphs and style changes mid page.

That bothered you? I barely noticed any of that seeing its all an intro and exposition of the setting, while the names are what you would expect... in such a setup.

Will try to get deeper into the book and see how it pans out, it was just a bit jarring going from reading "Brother Odd" by Dean Koontz (my last book) to this. Anyone who likes thrillers with the ghost of Elvis as one of the characters should read this series, can't recommend it enough. :)

Im just saying there is a middle ground between super awesome heights of the genre or writing in general and totally bad horrible crap.
Just like an action movie can be utter shit, a decent thing to watch once, or a legendary awesome cult movie.

Also, it seems a new forum has been opened on User Voice section of TToN.
"Game ideas".

I guess ideas will be moved around to clear up the clutter from stretch goals and kickstarter section then.
maybe they could "hire" Infinitron to handle it.

Finally got the time to read the recent update. Not sure if I like the immortaity thing. From what I understood the immortal wizard of which You are the castoff is immortal because he keeps jumping bodies (shells). So, what sense would it make to abandon an already immortal body? I'm not really getting this, but maybe I'm missing something.

The rest is pretty cool, though.

I would like to spill the beans on the next surprises, but Kevin would kill me. Especially because he's worked so hard on the coming update that... uh... ::shifty eyes::

Maybe cuz it got old and ugly? Just because you're immortal doesn't mean you don't age. Or maybe he just grew tired of it.

Or perhaps you're not exactly immortal, or weren't always, and there's some deeper explanation to this.

I'm not so sure you're immortal so much as augmented/designed with advanced technology that make you very, very hard to kill permanently. After all, your progenitor wouldn't want to live in a weak, fragile body so most likely made sure it was very tough.

And as for abandoning it, there's a hunter on their tail not to mention the possibility that whilst in your body they've done some bad things that people want revenge for.

Don't forget being chased the angel of death. He might have just switched to change identities.

@Colin McComb: Any idea if you will be making/releasing in-game assets (or close enough mockups) before the campaign ends? Project Eternity's "screenshot" did very well in bringing eyeballs and money rolling in.

Colin McComb 2 minutes ago
@Karthik - We have an idea, yes. :)
