old, perverted bachelor wizards.

They can summon succubus, use charm hoe, I mean charm person and dominate person multiple times per day. No need to abuse their apprentices.

Dominating people and things with magic might be getting old to them tho. A reluctant but willing subject is a different kink.

Mass Effect was a fantastic idea for an RPG, it just needs someone to pick up the torch and improve upon it. By which I mean not removing anything, just refining and adding complexity to what's already there. TPS gameplay, third person presentation, Michael Bay space opera art style, full voice acting, those are all great and fit the genre well.

People here like to romanticize melee; let's be real. If a creature like a Minotaurs or Orcs existed, 90% of this forum would be too scared to even get 50m close to such a creature without at least a .44 magnum or powerful spells, and the 10% remaining would be dead.
In a world where those huge humanoid creatures existed, then why couldn't super-heroic level humans exist as well?

Don't need super humans, a spear wall will fuck anything up.

The question is what would you do if something 9' tall with 50% more armspan than you figured out how to use a weapon such as a spear that was sized for them. That'd be monstrously strong in melee, basically impossible to defeat.

Care bear

Lightly derogatory term for an MMO player who avoids PVP combat, heavily preferring cooperative or solo PVE combat, chatting, or developing tradeskills/running quests. Depending on the game and the individual, this PVP avoidance can show up in several ways: by playing on strict non-PVP servers; by avoiding PVP areas or declining duels; or, by avoiding or condemning PVP players. Philosophically, they often cite unbalanced combat systems, overpowered guilds, ebayed characters, and ganking as reasons to prefer less aggressive play. The mindset can be self-sustaining in several ways: high-level "care bears" may have avatars that are tailored for PVE, not PVP; they may not network with skilled PVP players; or, they may morally refuse to learn aggressive PVP tactics. As an insult, the term applies less to players who merely prefer PVE to PVP and more to individuals who question the basic legitimacy of PVP or who greatly overreact to their avatars' deaths. Bear in mind that it is strictly incorrect to refer to the victims of heavy exploiters as Care Bears. Abbreviated CB. Compare with RPK, Player Killing/PK, PVP.

it's not really about 'romanticizing melee', it's more about how ppl think sword fighting is cool.

No love for the humble quarterstaff? Can be repurposed by any large piece of wood, can knock even an armored opponent on his ass, and if you're fast enough you can use it to keep opponents at a distance.

Sure, it's not great. You have to get multiple whacks in to do real damage, but one good smack to the temple, hand or ankle is enough to buy you an escape.

Proof: I've recently started sparring with a quarterstaff

When you reach expert, every skill point you put in will boost your armor class.
When you reach master, every skill point will also give a chance to stun your opponent.
Finally when you reach grandmaster, your staff will knock the teeth off sharks you fight. All while wearing a scuba suit.

And if you find a cool looking stick in the wood, it is easier to pretend that it is a quarterstaff rather than a sword. It is better for immersion.

I think it could benefit by removing some RPG elements too.

You're a fag, and it's fags like you that cause genres to stagnate.

Deus ex is trash and not an RPG. Shit combat, shit AI, incoherent level design, filled with items which make survival pointless, ass injury system...

No wonder the staff behind it trooned out.

Wait, what's the idea? Space man adventures to save the galaxy from giant death schrimp?
