This game is so damn good. Joshtards and grognards shut your whoring mouths and prepare to bow to styg.

After holding out a long time I caved and played the previous version until Core City, now I've decided to hold off playing more until the final release. But having already experienced the game, it's even harder to resist. All those new feats...

Best RPG of the year ever coming through. Styg has managed to out-Josh Josh and appeal to grognards and jouisseurs.

Ditching Josh so soon? Are you preparing the Underrail>Fallout trolling that will wrack the forum once the game is released?

Really psyched to see this game growing from relative obscurity into a Codex favorite. Great job, Styg!

If i am not wrong, Underrail & Fallout have design that are different enough to avoid too much comparison.

Making that comparison is like a European who can't tell the difference between a New York and Texan accent. The game's obviously inspired in part by Fallout but it couldn't be more different in almost every important (mechanical) way.

Not saying it won't happen, just saying it's an idiotic and incredibly lazy/uninsightful comparison to make.

I bought this game, played the beginning and then stopped playing. It was so good I don't want spoil myself before the game is released. Seems I just have to wait a few more months and that's it.

The worst thing about Underrail is that I was given it for free by a Codex bro and I vowed to spread the love only once it is finally released. At 7,99 I'll have to buy several copies to pay how much fun I got out of this game, though... (one will probably go to MicoSelva - who I know still hasn't got it - IF he completes his BG2 LP before release)

No chance. Save your money, too. I would have bought Underrail long time ago if I knew I will have time to play it on release. Thanks for the thought, though.

Will buy anyway, no use in saving money if the whole point is that you want to give it to the dev :takemymoney:.

(And I knew your LP won't be done by then, couldn't hurt to try)

Somehow, I read this as "All those new feels..." I thought maybe Underrail had taught you how to feel joy again, like it did for me.

Yes, it taught me to love again. And also cured my cancer. (All of our hyperbolic comments are setting the game up for such a backlash when some players are underwhelmed/disappointed, it's gonna be fun)

The talk on the first page about "being Joshed" is basically saying that Underrail is to Fallout what PoE is to the IE games, and is paving the way for the inevitable thread. You know itz coming!

Yeah, except Fallout had horrible combat mechanics so that's still a nonsensical comparison.

Well, iirc Underrail started life as real time but was changed to turn based because obviously thats the only proper way to build an rpg. Shame Josh didn't understand that, otherwise maybe PoE would have a chance of competing with the sheer awesome that is Underrail. The decision to stick with rtwp was pure idiocy but those are the cards I guess.

Like many of the posters here, I decided to stop playing the game until release*; even then, Steam informs me I have racked up almost 160 hours. This is frankly ridiculous; a game that was for most of its development cycle done by a single person, that has the depth of mechanics to keep players interested for that long on an *alpha* build version, and that stomps on pretty much any crpg you care to name from a game perspective (it can't match up to story rpgs for the 'epic storyfag experience', but then its not trying to) is doing something right. If anything, I'd say that its better than fallout, but then I always preferred Wasteland back in the day and thought of fallout as a derivative knock-off that somehow lost some of the magic.

*Unfortunately the final alpha version with its manifold changes is proving impossible to resist, and I'm experimenting with a few builds upto Junkyard / Depot A to see what to roll with when the game releases in the summer. The changes are quite sweeping vs. what the game was like a year ago, but generally for the better.

Edit: thanks Jaesun for pointing out it was rtwp a couple of posts down, I didn't recall exactly what the combat system was back at the start, I just remembered it hadn't always been turn-based (its also I think why we still have the occasional progress bar on abilities like aimed shot etc, which used to take time before the switch to turn based). I only discovered Underrail (through the Codex of course) after it had already gone turn based.

 making PoE turn based was never on the table. They got 4 million dollars from kickstarter to make an IE clone, it would have been "pure idiocy" for them to make it turn based. Not because it would have been a worse game, but because you can't go collect money off of saying you're making a very specific type of game and then go out and make a completely different game.

inXile were collecting money for a Torment clone but still decided to make turn based combat. Just saying.

What most people want is adding TB mode, not removing RTWP mode.

And? It's universally agreed that Torment had shit combat. People pledging to a Torment clone are far less likely to care about combat than people pledging to a BG/IWD clone.

What most people want is adding TB mode, not removing RTWP mode.

People actually want this after playing Arcanum? Man truly is not a learning animal.

They pissed off plenty of backers with that (despite the T:ToN kickstarter at no point mentioning it would have IE-style combat), so I don't see how it helps your argument.
