Just posting to say that the release of this game will be the best (if a few days early) gift I will receive this holiday season.

Serpent in the Staglands Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
The only problem with this news is that it increases the chance of a 2009-esque embarrassment in Codex GOTY voting, where noble Codexers of good taste are split between two worthy candidates allowing the untermenschen to vote in the mediocre, but high profile game. Hopefully this won't happen though, since AoD and Underrail are better than Risen and KotC, but PoE isn't much better than DA:O, so maybe some of the less-monocled members can still manage to vote intelligently.

Agree that AoD and UnderRail might unfortunately steal eachother's votes, allowing Twitcher 3 or PoE to creep in and potentially even grab number one.
Unless too many Bethtards manage to spread their disease and get F4 somewhere on top, too... But let's hope Codex hasn't turned to shit that much despite thread and post count suggesting differently. :negative:

Personally, I'd say UnderRail > AoD > TW3 > PoE > > > > > > > F4 with some kind of negative score, even though Disappointment of the Year should go to PoE because expectations for beth games were already somewhere subzero.

Dragon Age Origins.
Yea, that was one of the most shameful moments in the (prestigious) Codex history...

About the news on Underrail: :bounce::incline:
I only played it to the Junkyard location and haven't even finished this part (only made some minor quests there) so i will have almost whole game to play for the 1st time. Yea !

Bullshit.
Dare I say that that Dragon Age: Origins had more of a Baldur's Gate feel than Pillar of Eternity will ever have ?!
I even finished the game twice because I was curious for another build I wanted to try, not unlike Sawyer's "not fun allowed" "balance in everything" "read this wall of text" of a game.
The itemization alone made that game better.
Also, look at the other games nominated for that year.

DAO had better NPCs, Story and C&C but worse combat and combat systems. Even the c/p encounters of PoE are tiny when compared to the brain cell murdering power of the endless stream of same enemies in the Dwarven tunnels.

What is that you don't understand about difficulty mode ?

Look, when a game presents a normal mode of difficulty, I assume that that is the way the game was designed to be played. Playing on hard is like self-imposing penalties just for the sake of additional challenge. It doesn’t change the fact that the game is easy on the way is supposed to be played. It is like saying that BG2 is super hard because you choose not to rest most of the time, etc.

That being said, even in the standard difficulty the game has some well thought out fights, that require planning and tactics. I just wish that every fight in the game were like those ones. Still, even if all my criticisms, the game is awesome.

My sentence was an answer about your wish of removal of some difficulty mode.
The thing is that the whole idea of difficulty mode is that you pick the difficulty that suit you the most.
I would gladly have a super easy mode as long as the hard mode exist.
It is much better than having some fucked up developper that automatically assume that the playerbase is casual only or hardcore only, and make the game frustrating for the other half of the playerbase. I had to forfeit keep going playing my favourite franchise, for several reasons, but one of those is that they forgot that not 100% of their playerbase is made of low attention span casual. It is frustrating as these developpers cannot imagine that some of their players might want challenge. At the opposite, not having an easy mode would be equaly frustrating for those casuals.

Been a while, but iirc I had some pretty fun moments with DAO combat, while PoE's trashmob fights turned boring and repetative pretty quickly. Some fight (like fighting Flemeth) was really something that impressed me at the time, a sharp contrast to fighting the Adra Dragon (?) in PoE (which was really, really long and dull and also pratically begged you to use cheesy exploits).
Also, imho the setting was more interesting/original and there was some C&C, I think.
Not a huge fan of the DA series but DA:O was probably the best one of the series and is imo a better game than the PoS named PoE.

I don't have to look, i was there, i voted for KotC. Knights of the Chalice is one of the best translations of d&d ruleset into computer game ever made - and it lost because of not-so-prestigious individuals who (obviously because of their bad taste in games) voted DA:O. Take it as you wish. I, as a codexer, was butthurt ashamed because of this. And still am. Also i feel a little less presigious since then :obviously:.
