Here’s the TL;DR pitch: Vampire Gang RPG with F:NV-like factions, Battle Brothers-esque overworld gameplay, an AI DM that reacts to your decisions, and gratuitous but tasteful porn.
Everything about this sounds very much up my street except for the last bit - how, uh, "gratuitous" and "tasteful" is the porn? Is it just occasional boobs as in, say, the witcher 3 or something more explicit and difficult to explain without embarassment if the wife were to walk in while I was playing?

Yeah, like Zombra said above, I'm considering a menu option to toggle the sex stuff. By default? This is a porn game with lots of explicit porn.

Im really looking forward to this game and I hope you dont make any SJWism design changes and acquiesce to those annoying comments like " this game objectifies women because they hot "

We expecting a Vampire porn game so keep up the good work and keep posting updates on the art design. I have no issue with explicit sex :salute:

Playing around with a few masked male player portrait/icons:

Random non-masked portrait:

minproject1_1-2.png

Also, there will be initial faction bonuses tied to your character's ethnicity. There really isn't such a thing as multiculturalism in gangs. Being a white dude in the triad-inspired faction, or a black dude in the russian mafia-inspired faction is gonna be one hell of an uphill battle.

Now that I think about it, I might actually get canceled.

Description while selecting ethnicity and face portrait:

Like mortal crime syndicates in MoonFall, the vampire lineages can trace their origins in the city back to the mass migration following the Cataclysm of 721, which resulted in the destruction of Greater Gushan and most of old Dyavol. The recent Zimalyan Civil War has also led to a wave of refugees, bringing with them the Sunseeker Court. As a consequence, most lineages are split among ethnic and cultural lines.

The vampire lineages are surprisingly progressive, to a point. Ability, loyalty and cunning matter most, but be aware, many lineages still favor what they consider as “their own people.”

Make sure to include a few of the mandatory masked men.

Since Paradox has epically bungled its "30 year old emo goth shit" games, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I enjoyed Troika's work on Bloodlines and I'm desperate to get more experiences like that. I prefer modern urban fantasy to cyberpunk, but given the dearth of urban fantasy games I guess I'll take whatever I can get. Cyberpunk vampires is at least original, since I don't recall anything besides BloodNet doing it before. Looking forward to release in... what, mid-2024?

As a heads up, this will be a top-down game like most JRPGs or Infinity Engine games. Hopefully the setting will be fantastic but other than having vampires (and hopefully good writing) in it, the game is not trying to be a "Bloodlines-like" in any way.

I'm still trying to decide how big this game is.
fwiw, and I get dragged for this a lot on Codex, for any game with a story I like it to be lean and mean, by which I mean short and all quality time. I don't envision VGoM as a sandbox filled with activities to keep me coming back for dozens of hours. I do hope for a gripping story and great mechanics that will keep me riveted for 10-20 hours. One zebra's opinion.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, although there will probably be sandboxy things to do. My last game was meant to be around 20 hours but ballooned out of control. Is now probably closer to the 40+hr mark for completion-ism.

Pft, I wish. Paradox DLCs still make way more money than me.

Crap, the Ukraine war seems to have impacted the development progress of this game real bad.

you are welcome

Nah, this was always going to be a long project. It's big with a lot of moving parts.

I'm honestly surprised that there aren't more urban fantasy CRPGs, of any perspective. I can't really think of any besides Bloodlines. It's been 18 years since the game bombed. You'd think devs would have gotten over that by now. But I can't even find indie games.

Shadowrun Returns and its ilk exist. I'm not the biggest fan of the newer games but they were pretty good for scratching that itch.

Ah yes. But they're also post-apocalyptic cyberpunk. I'm looking for modern-ish urban fantasy.

There isn't anything apocalyptic about the shadowrun setting in practice. There's fully functioning cities and governments. The apocalypse was just about excuse to clear the board and set the world up.

Which proves my point about the genre being really sparse. I only seem to have a choice between gaslight street times or what is effectively an alien world.

We don't get them that often because they're usually like YIIK - a Post modern RPG*.

In other words...absolutely horrible beyond belief.

There's a lot of anime-styled urban fantasy games. Most of them are mediocre.

Edit: You want examples? Many of the entries in the Shin Megami Tensei series, especially the Persona and Devil Survivor spinoff series. There's Catherine, Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi... Need I go on?

Yeah, the text rpgs Paradox released via Choice of Games are indeed “30 year old emo goth shit.” I was expecting something like Bloodlines where you had fun adventures, but the text games are more interested in inundating you with pretentious arbitrary misappropriated jargon, masturbating to their overwrought lore, and shoving a blatantly partisan political message where they can. I know this is a feature of the source material and I despise it, but Bloodlines avoided that for the most part because Troika weren’t actually fans of the source material before Activision told them to make it a licensed game.

So I’m looking forward to MoonFall because it looks like an actual game as opposed to self-masturbatory lore bloat pretending to be a game.
