This game is obviously aimed at me - I fucking rock at rotating cameras.

One thing I don't get is the complaints about the GUI size. Am I the only one here who liked the big interface elements of older games like Might & Magic or Dreamweb?
I certainly prefer a more minimalistic approach to them, like:
600full-the-temple-of-elemental-evil%253A-a-classic-greyhawk-adventure-screenshot.jpg

What the UI so far reminds me of more is something like this:
bg_mon1.gif

There seems to be a lot of unneeded clutter and "decorative" elements to it that seem to have no function but make the gameplay area smaller. Some of the UI elements also looked out of place compared to the others, like the one to the left seems to try to look rusty/rustic and the "skillbar" looks more futuristic. Talking about the skillbar and its different contexts (and how long it always took him to click on the "perception" or "unlock" symbol and then go back up to the element he wanted to use it on) I couldn't help but feel that either a context-sensitive radial menu like in ToEE or at least being able to scroll through the options with a mousewheel or similar might have been the better option.

The great things about the video is that it has a rotatable camera, hex based grids, skills that are tied to usage and hopefully a shitload t of content since they are saying that there is a lot of reactive text. The flanking maneuvers are nice, covers are great and its good to see the beloved action points used in a game besides AoD.

2013.

The year of the second coming!

Speaking of AoD, will it be better than AoD? Will it come out before AoD?

Wholy shit, that was a massive :incline:

Whilst the previous updates left me pensive, this one leaves me really optimistic and excited.
I now can't wait until beta!

What does "early gameplay footage" have to do with the voice acting?

Bro, you are totally right. I bet the one thing InXile are concerned with right now is voice acting...something they were explicitly discouraged from spending resources on by their backers (but not you, right? This is important stuff. Go you!) and something which Fargo (or was that Feargus? My primitive mind can't keep all those darn names straight!) reiterated in interviews. But yeah, man! This is the CODEX! Better comment on totally irrelevant and inapplicable shit in an early gameplay video, right?

This is all disregarding that you thinking what very well might be placeholder VA sounding like "fratboys" actually makes any goddamn sense in the first place. Which it doesn't. You fucking sperg.

I personally think that a comparison is Unfair since they are doing different things. AoD is a single character game focused on a very different kind of world and ideas. Also, recent troubling developments related to computer games have opened up more space in my heart to accommodate several such games.

Ah, I wasn't sure if AoD was letting you have a group members or not. You're correct then.

I guess we just disagree then. I like the more fleshed out and thematic UI of BG much more than the one from TOEE. This is just a simple preference issue, I guess, and there were always people who disliked intrusive AIs, who would remove the info bar from Doom or just leave the health/mana/stamina bar in daggerfall. Still, many modern games seem to assume people all prefer it like this, and don't put much effort in making the UI interesting and well fleshed out, even if you can customize it to be bigger. So it is very nice to see Wasteland 2 doing the opposite. I mean, if you dislike how the UI looks, you will be able to customize it so much less of the screen is taken, so both sides will be pleased, I think.

They're concerned enough about it to make it common and showcase it to the public. I apologize though, from now on I will be sure to consult you on what is and isn't ok to criticize before posting. :retarded:

All these snowbacks are the same to me. :troll:

I know they're not nothern, fuck off.

It's not irrelevant. Quite the opposite, they claim it's quite common. And making me miss fucking 3dawg.

Another thing I like to sperg on: basic grammar. Learn basic sentence structure and then come back to lecture me on the finer points of sucking cock.

How about something relevant like the gameplay? You know...the point of the video? That which they were focused on showing us? That would be a fine start.

It's not irrelevant. Quite the opposite, they claim it's quite common.

Because you've been told this is the finished product, right? What makes you think the VA was any less a placeholder than the pic of the thug/dog? Even if it weren't though, VA is the last goddamn thing I'm concerned with and "fratboys" is definitely not what I heard.

And making me miss fucking 3dawg.

Unsurprising.

Another thing I like to sperg on: basic grammar.

Fascinating. I'm sorry you hear fratboys. It must be tough thinking that every non-sperger out there is out to get you.

How about I criticize whatever the fuck I want? I don't need your permission to criticize something dipshit. If they didn't want the voice acting criticized they shouldn't have included a segment of nothing but fucking voice acting.

Because you've been told this is the finished product, right? What makes you think the VA was any less a placeholder than the pic of the thug/dog?

The gameplay section shows... gameplay. It's ok to use some placeholders because they're not showing off character portraits. The baby/dog pics don't really detract from the purpose. The same is not true of the radio broadcasts portion, which is there specifically to show radio broadcasts. If they are not representative of the final game they shouldn't have bothered with that section of the video. But they did, which makes them fair game.

Fascinating. I'm sorry you hear fratboys. It must be tough thinking that every non-sperger out there is out to get you.

It was tough making sense of a rambling meaningless sentence written by a human vegetable, yes.

How about you do? Mastermind does not like the voice acting in this early gameplay video. He thinks what might be placeholder VA sounds like fratboys. Brilliant. Sorry I interrupted.

Unless the point was simply to show you that this element exists which is a perfectly reasonable thing for them to have done.

I edited the sentence in question before you posted yours, tough guy. But if it truly wasn't clear, I'll reiterate: The beard from your neck must be growing in your ears if what you heard is "fratboys".

Second, the part where they broke down the door reminded me that it seems pretty silly to have a brute force skill. I really don't understand why they wouldn't just allow you to use attributes as well as skills on the gameworld.
A single concession towards gamism and ~balance~. Instead of balancing a skill against an attribute they have two skills that more or less do the same thing with some doors easier to lockpick and some doors easier to smash. Explosives seem like they'll be a thrown monkey wrench, we'll see.

This is looking great!

A lot better than what we saw with the scorpitron.
I was pretty skeptical at first, but I'm glad I backed W2.
It still tells nothing about the final product, but it's looking good.

Things I'd like fixed:
- add fog of war (otherwise you can see enemies but they can't see you)
- fix the xp farm (the mutant bugs clustering and not killing themselves was weird)

Well, arguably, clutter and "decorative" elements are very old school, and I don't mind them one bit.

Also, did you not notice the keyboard shortcuts in the skillbar, that he chose not to use just the make the video more explicit? I think there were fallout-like 1-6 numbers as shortcuts?

Also, the Red Scorpion sounding like a fratboy whining about dog-killers is a clear shout-out to the first game, sheesh. Way to miss the point.
