I find the concept of very small nuclear weapons just plain silly. High-tech conventional explosives in sufficient quantities would produce an equivalent yield while being far less complicated to design and produce, orders of magnitude less expensive, smaller and lighter, and probably safer for the operator as well.

I don't think they bring as much cool factor to the table as developers lately seem to think they do. They're also a trivialization of an advanced technology that should, in my view, seem unreachable and awe-inspiring to residents of a post-nuclear wasteland.

Yeah, if anything, the miniaturization of nuclear technology is much more difficult to pull off than the large-scale applications.

So giant robots(with comical design) are OK but maniacs use nuclear waste instead of TNT are not? I can assure you, this bomber probably one of the least "unlogical/silly" thing you'll see in Wasteland 2 if they really follow previous games route.

Oh, I'm sure it's not nuclear waste, but rather a fissionable device.

I don't remember Wasteland suggesting that nuclear weapons were a commodity.

How do you know it is commodity? Maybe this bombers are really rare snowflakes that they only live in one, spesific location of map like an old military base perhaps? I don't think majortiy of the enemies we face going to include these maniacs.

Edit:
What Captain Shrek said.

Maybe it's because he's holding eight of them?

Would anyone be able to throw a nukular grenade far enough to survive using it? If yes, then doesn't that make nukular grenades somewhat less scary (smaller than expected effective range)?

I like the idea of the nuke vest because it could pose an interesting challenge in the game but the grenades just seem more stoopid than silly.

So a guy with nuclear grenades comes into a zone, manages to spots you a ways out, then proceeds to blows himself up and takeout half the county with him. Unless those are just like regular grenades but do a bit more damage. Fucking silly if you ask me.

Isn't Wasteland supposed to be silly?

My guess is these are deadly grenades that get a funny little mushroom cloud animation.

Well thankfully you are not designing this game.

Yep, seems they have all the help they need, now that they outsourced some design elements to Todd Howard.

Joking aside, the concept art looks nice, but why not make them grenades of the non-nuclear variety, it's dramatic and interesting as it is, doesn't need the added "hmmpf" of a nuclear explosion.

There's silly done right, Fallout, and then there's silly "hey look at them mushroom cloud nuclear powered engines" of the Fallout 3 variety.

Because they didn't.

So wasteland is basically "everything goes" then?

The short game segment shown in the alpha gameplay seemed pretty toned down, giant robot spider notwithstanding. That being said, i don't want the game to be a post-apocalyptic society simulator, but the reasoning behind designing nuclear suicide bombers is not something i would enjoy seeing used throughout the game world.

Giant Scorpion robots tho, they could have one of those around every corner and i would lap it up with glee.
