Just got to California and entering Rodia. I've heard Rodia's a cool area with a few quests and so on - am I locking myself out of any of that by refusing to pay the toll and fighting my way through the raiders? Doubt it, but you never know.

Did inXile really use art assets from half-life 2?

No comments on this? I'd have thought it would be a big no-no, since I've seen many (free) mods get shutdown for using textures from other games.

They didn't use that, I did. This was part of the crowdsourced unity project, the shack one, that barrel is part of the shack scene. My first accepted work out of 4 which I was hoping they reject. No idea that was from HL2, I never completed HL2 since 2004, the only FPS that gave me nausea. Hope they can just remove the barrels.

Yes. If you just kill all of the Jerks it automatically ends some questlines, and it prevents you from being able to do stuff in the Brothel and Bank.

I just got to Titan Canyon and the monks are the best thing about the game. So far everything has been pretty standard and uninteresting - in fact it's almost like post-apocalyptic episodes of Cops. You're requested to clean up a problem somewhere so you go and do it. Save the Ag Center, settle a dispute somewhere, save the L'eve Lupe Mines, set up a radio. The mad monks are just crazy though and I love it. This is the kind of weird, imaginative stuff I was hoping to see more of, these crazy, suicidal monks who strap nuclear sludge grenades to their chest and guide people through canyons. What a weird and fun scenario.

I found Rodia to be dull. There seems to be only one solution (even if you can approach it from multiple ways) and you get most quests only from "good" path. Hollywood I think is OK. But I would like an option to join a holy crusade and turn it into a bloodbath. I found a few options there - the "optimal", the pro-Hollywood, and a few mini quests that can help player infiltrate/destroy God's Militia from within. If there is also a Holy Crusade option, maybe that opens if you finish the guy in that small secondary area where priest does execution, I'd say Hollywood is truly a complete area that is better than other stuff.

It could have been written better though. Not ideas and quests, just writing itself sometimes feels bland. "Rangers, listen, you must do this and that! Only you can help!" and all that.

edit. aw man. There is an option to side with Retribution Jones but there is no gameplay attached to it. You just watch one cutscene and NPCs get replaced automatically. I hoped for a cool fight or something.
And just attacking church breaks too much shit/maggie goes hostile/penitent quest breaks so it's not worth it either, unless you just want some hard fights. But then all hostiles do not approach you and attack randomly so no hard fights either.

So the Peace option for Hollywood is the sexiest in terms of content and stuffies.

Man this game sucks a lot of strength from you. I did 2 playthroughs, one on Ranger and one on Supreme Jerk, and I never was sure if I like it or am I just beating myself into trying to like it. The classic example of polishing the turd came to mind, but I don't think Wasteland 2 is that bad. More like it's what we russians call first pancake always a blob. I think on english they say first fry is a flop or something like that.
It's like a piece of ore hammered into something by an apprentice. And you know they tried hard and it is lovely if you look at it from a particular angle and light, but the way they did it and metal used was just not right.

You know what I don't like the most. Well, except the hype and bashing publishers and then releasing game that broken and unresponsive.

I don't like that world is sliced into 2 parts. It's so against spirit of the game. I can forgive a lot, but what's with Bioware scripting? Chopper, beating planks to walls and listening to radio intros, changing radsuits three times, what's up with all that worthless, restrictive shit? It should have been one map. There can't be any reactivity or interactivity if game doesn't even have a unified world where you can go where you want, and when you want.
With half of skills just opening various containers, interactivity is probably what I was missing the most in this game. I never played W1, but I heard it had some unusual interactive parts that were not always obvious (makes me think about using radio to lure mutants in Fallout 1 and things like that). I really would like to read someone doing a comparison at how and where W2 stands with it's gameplay ideas compared to W1.

People can come up with hundreds of ideas on how to improve the game. How to make energy weapons fun, or heavy weapons unique, or whatever. But it's too late for that. The money brought us what we have now. Guess just have to enjoy it for what it is. Treasure small and nice parts, eat dull and mediocre ones.
Could use a drink right now. Not to sure if to toast for a first game in line by InXile or to make me forget levels like Seals Beach that were probably made by same person who did Fortress of Regrets in PST and Void in Arcanum.
Ever see that guy, I will beat him up.

I kinda dislike the music. It's not bad or anything, it does its job.

But its actively unmemorable.

Wow... Father Enola, who was a neatish character, just told my rangers "You suck!" in a terribly written dying breath conversation. The writing on this game feels like was done by 10 different guys; a lot of times it's okay, other times it's Fallout-grade, and then, way too often, it's fucking cringe-worthy.

"You suck!" indeed. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't totally out of character for that character.

Why are rail thieves on the world map around the prison area and red skorpions up near rail nomads? :mystery:

I read somewhere that the game has more text than all the Harry Potter books combined. I don't know if that's true, but I can believe it. It's kind of unfortunate that so much of the text is spent on descriptions of things or characters who repeat what other characters have said.

Done everything in LA you can without upgrading suits, I think. Kind of silly that there's only like 7 bags of cat litter and you need 6. One I know is in a safe that you need like 10 safecracking to open, and another is apparently in some area that I haven't even discovered.

Rodia I thought was cleverly set up and quite fun, but again the execution is clunky; too many ways for the scripting to screw up, for one. It is a very Fallout 1 vibe place, though.

Just had a Scorpitron fight and it wasn't that much of a slog even with a 4-man party. I was dealing it about 300 damage per turn with everybody behind cover, and the melee guy mopping up the little guys with grenades. Night Terror was fantastic at standing out in the open and soaking up damage & attracting the little ones. I think it took less than 15 turns.

Dying words aren't so climactic in real life, you know. This is a really dumb thing to get hung up on.

The game is great fun so far. Some flaws but definitely the incline I was hoping for. It's basically Baldurs Gate with guns.

I just had a great bug: the scrolling stopped working. Everything else works, I just can't scroll the view at all, not with the mouse and not with the keys.

Apparently Hollywood is totally fucked from what I read on the forums. My only advice is... good luck.

Which person is that, and can I please get a screenshot so I can report it? And any more anyone can find, in general, would be super helpful. I've reported a few post-release and the more, the merrier!

Bushy, black beard?:)

Is this too pedantic though? You obviously don't have an existing portrait with both a 'bushy, black beard' and 'hair clipped near to the scalp'. At least I don't recall one. Should I even bother bringing up portraits that aren't just the wrong race and/or sex?
