Yes, it could work. since you guys seem to have ideas: I was requested to make Fallout themed variations of the following:

Green: done
Yellow: in progress

Brofist
Yes / thumbs up / agree
No / thumbs down / disagree

Thanks
Citation Needed
Informative / Interesting / Makes you think
Cool Story Bro
WTF am I reading
Facepalm / Retarded

So if you have ideas for those, let me know. Providing Vault Boy references of what you mean would help as well. I’m sure some of you are more aware of what Vault Boy can represent throughout all games and various perks.

Informative / Interesting / Makes you think
Each of these are very similar, but just a few degrees different. And I think the original buttons for each of them weren't quite on-point with the buttons use and meaning.

Makes you Think is easy, just give him a big, pink brain. That or a cartoonishly oversized forehead.

I know the emoji is popular, but I'm all for Fallout-ifying all of them. For animations, make the brain throb, have a vein pulsate, or maybe just animate electric sparks around it.

For Interesting, have him read a book. But for Informative, have him read a newspaper.

To better distinguish the similar yet different uses of Interesting and Informative, some subtle distinctions need to be made. For Interesting, vault boy should be largely covered by the book with only part of his head and side visible, with a more involved or enraptured expression. For Informative, keep his torso more visible and keep his regular/neutral expression.

You’ll need to discuss that with the staff, I’m just providing the art. It originated from a suggestion by rusty which was then approved by DU.

Ghulgothas Peachcurl Great references. My understanding (and I might be misunderstanding) is that elements separated by / would be merged as one button to reduce clutter. For instance “yes” and “agree” would be one button since their meaning is nearly identical.

Since we switched to the new board/forum, I lost all my buttons except for Brofist. So... big downgrade so far.
You sure? If you click the brofist, it should open a list of all available buttons. (only if you click it a second time will you actually rate "brofist")

Yeah, I just discovered this. I heard legends of poor codexers who only had 1 button, and I pitied them. Then came the day it happened to me... or so I thought. I was afraid to click that Brofist button with the regular buttons nested inside for fear that I'd give someone an underseved Brofist.

The bottom-right brofist definitely needs to be replaced with something, to better reflect the new nesting of buttons within.

Hmm.... what could it be...

But: consider that whatever button is placed there, it will be the fastest to use. Which is kinda nice for brofist. Although, I'm sure funny would also work, I suspect it is by far the most frequently used one?

Personally, I'd remove 'Brofist' because it's not representative (it's a button for all ratings). I made this:
p4O8lTn.png

I also made a second version for once it's been clicked/pressed:

In action:

We could therefore replace the text "Brofist" and the "brofist" icon with something which is more representative (a button for buttons).

Which would however eliminate the convenience of quickly rating something "brofist".

(also: please no blinking red light under each post ;) )

It wouldn’t blink at all. It would only show the ”pushed“ version on the user’s end as the buttons panel is being displayed if that makes sense.

How about instead of big red circle make an empty circle and cramp inside 4 or 9 as tiny as possible the most prominent buttons.
I personally think buttons should appear under each post as before. Having to click a button to bring up a menu is a step backward in my opinion (but necessary, I hear).

It actually can be enabled back in XF2.

I pretty sure having the buttons hidden saves bandwidth or cpu cycles or something. I like it better this way anyway. It was a huge waste of space

In order to improve the doughnut button, it should be upgraded in functionality to be more like Clippy, the old Microsoft assistant in word/excel. While you are busy writing a post it should pop up and give advice on spelling mistakes and formatting. It should also recommend which buttons you use to tag peoples' posts with.

DarkUnderlord can this please be your next forum project

DarkUnderlord we need a button where you are laughing at someone else's expense. I currently use
rating_lulz.gif
for both funny remakes and laughing at someone, but TBH this is probably too subtle for Codex dwelling autists. Something like this
PrBejJ9.gif
but preferably more lively.

EDIT: There was a great one that drinks water and then spits it out while laughing, but I'm unable to find it ATM.
