    Hmm, dunno about 5 journeys. Lets assume every character takes 5 hours to beat, isn't it kinda too thin? You start getting used to one character and bam you need to switch to another one. Not sure

    I can see why they would do it this way:

    1) People usually don't have that much time to play games these days, so they prefer shorter games/runs/rounds/matches over very long ones.
    2) 5 characters with less content per each means there is more diversity in terms of gameplay, because you aren't playing just one character over and over again.

    This also potentially has the benefit of requiring you to remember less about the overall narrative. Depending on how it's set up, you might be paying more attention to the story arc of the character you're currently playing. It could even be a self contained vignette that's telling the story of part of the world they're fleshing out, for example.

    A big problem for me with long games (though I still love them) is if I get busy and have to take an extended break from whatever game I'm in the middle of, I may have no idea what's going on when I get back to it. This usually results in me putting the game down and never getting back to it.

    Having an in-game stickers (or a journal) should be a feature for keeping track of various stuff.

    I like the concept. It's like a short story collection rather than a novel. Conan instead of LotR. I can vibe with that.

    I've actually wanted an RPG like that for a while. Most RPGs are just a bunch of different vignettes, the problem is most get awkwardly stitched together to try to form some overarching plot. So get the person that's desperately trying to save the kingdom from the immanent demon invasion stopping to be a caravan guard for a bit. And the whole world has to be relatively static, because it's hard to create a huge open world that's dynamic in an RPG.

    There are a lot of interesting things that could be done with the multiple small story approach.

    The problem isn't with the narrative but with the mechanics since all the protagonists' classes are preset. So it kinda kills the character building aspect of it.

    I thought it always looked pretty OK for what it is. This game lives and dies by the gameplay, in particular the emergent element.
