The codex may have some honest, intelligent people, but for the most part the members there seem to be elitists who have nothing better to do with their time but attack newer RPGs because companies like Black Isle don't exist anymore and newer games aren't turn-based. A lot of the people there aren't against saying things that are false (like the various things that are constantly stated to be definite for Fallout 3 despite the utter lack of information on the game), hypocritical (like when they attacked Oblivion for having a major actor like Patrick Stewart on the cast near-constantly before the game came out despite the fact that Fallout, a game they give near-constant praise, had one of the most "all-star" casts that I've ever seen), or absolutely ridiculous (one of them said that Fallout was made 2D because of artistic style and not because 3D graphics were barely competent at the time, and claimed that any form of 3D visuals whatsoever would not only damage the theme but completely ruin the entire game for Fallout 3), and many of them are elitist over one of the absolute stupidest things you can be elitist about (being elitist over a genre is bad enough, but being elitist over a specific subset of a genre is insane). They act as though their poorly founded opinions, mostly involving how virtually everything that Black Isle hasn't been involved in is crap, are fact and cannot be contested, and they treat anyone who disagrees with them like total crap. Oh, and if you like a genre other than RPGs then it's probably best to stay the hell away, because they'll attack you incessantly solely because of it (in my short time there I actually saw someone flamed clear off the forum because he mentioned that he liked fighting games).

Sometimes the people there are clever, and sometimes their cynicism can lead to some apt statements, but for the most part they're a bunch of elitists who are basically just sore because the entire market isn't focused solely on making games that cater to their extremely specific needs. There are nice people there too, very nice people who are extremely intelligent (probably more intelligent than most of the members here), but they're vastly outnumbered by the elitists and it's really not worth dealing with most of the members just to get to those select few.

Sorry for the really long post, but I just really hate the way people on the Codex act. I don't really care what they say about this series (even I could make a pretty impressive list of flaws in this series given the time), but their overall elitist attitude and ignorance bothers the hell out of me.

Funny, I don't remember ever being pro-Black Isle. Planescape: Torment was about as good as it got with them, but after that.. Nada.

Unfortunately, noone can be told what Teh C0dex is. You have to see it for yourself.

We're trying to free your mind, dear ESFer. But we can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it.

You send a message to Summer - the story ends here, you wake up and believe whatever you want to believe. You click the link - you stay in wonderland and we'll show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

hmm, to think I always thought the codex was a place to read and enjoy a decent to outstanding discussions on crpg's and their gameplay mechanics that are either hit or miss. Also it was a place to get acquainted with the wonderful world of shock porn and other strange fetishes.(oh god, why didnt i check the links first)

The Codex is like that part in the Invisibles where Dane gets his mind blown on blue mold and sees barebelith. Except without the pretentious metaphysical gibberish and cross-dressing Brazilians (maybe?).

I can't believe he got that many "elitist"s into one sentence. Thats pretty impressive, grammatically speaking.

One of the Bethesda people replied:
"Any mention of the Codex will be deleted. That is all I am at liberty to say."
