A town guard confronted him, he broke the guard's leg and ran. He got away, too. Thought he was clear until the town gates closed. He went in quietly to the prisons with the next guards showed up, he started making an argument that he was working for the pharaoh and was too valuable to jail, then he bribed the judge and got off free.

I don't like people killing off my NPCs and derailing my campaign just to see how I respond.

He is clearly a better player than you a DM.
