I see that the classic thread has been moved to retardoland. I strongly disagree with this.

    Why?

Because it's a part of history that should be visible to all, not just gd-accessing Codex members. You can't find that info in as much detail anywhere else, there's a good amount of blogs and newsposts all over the internet linking to exactly that thread.

    Bring it back to GRPGD.

    I support this agenda.
It is truly one of the best thread ever on the Codex. Worthwhile read with lots of twists. Also moving to retardo land means that there won't be anymore update to the thread, imagine if it was moved before the ebay auction where stuff like penis monster and Cleve's resignation letter were uncovered!

Keep in mind that it was Cleve himself who asked for it to be locked and retardo'd.

I agree it should be brought back, but I did notice Cleve asking for it to be locked and retardoed. I wonder if having his accusations of child abuse etc visible to everyone in such a well known thread (linked in plenty of places, as opposed to his old usenet posts etc) made him a bit wary after his recent experiences with superhero litigators. After all, he's about to release a top-selling game and become even more of an industry celebrity.

    :troll:

But yes, hope it emerges from its unwarranted exile in retardoland.

Do we need to start a petition to bring it back? Collect signatures and such?

No, but I figure there's a large overlap between the audience of people who want that thread back and the audience of people who are Kodex Kleve Kultists.

I'm ok with the thread being retardo'd until something interesting happens again. The thread can always be "opened back up" when new events occur.

The only bad thing is new visitors can't read the thread because it's retardo'd. Can't you just lock the thread and leave it stickied in GRPG?

That's not what it's about. When new events occur ideally new threads will be opened for easier navigation - it's just that info about video game history that's not available anywhere else to the same accuracy, is found in that thread. It's not something that should be hidden away. It's comparable to hiding Sirtek documents into the vaults of the Strong Museum.

The public has the right to know!

Except no. Remember the whole auction thing started because a guy googled sirtech and found the thread and started posting. While that is unlikely to happen twice in the exact same way, it shows the value of having the thread readable to all.

The thread should only ever be retardo'd if someone actually writes a massive recap of all the important parts. Until then it deserves to be public knowledge.

Somebody summarise it all into an article and we'll post it on the Codex.

Sir-Tech went Bankrupt because of a series of mismanagement steps on a major sequel to the Wizardry series.

All of the following points contributed to the decline of Sir-Tech

but this is probably a p. good summary right here. Except for most of the newer stuff. Maybe use it as a starting point?

Reading an article is not the same as having access to source material.

That's actually a good idea, a proper article like that can be a good read (also preserved in the Halls of Codexia) and also can be bring prestigious traffic.

Cleve didn't start that thread even, I don't see the merit of retardo'ing it at all.

Yes, and he's also leaving forever.

I normally have little interest in the drama on this site (Bedlam's full of loonies- SURPRISE!), but I will say that this was one of the first threads I looked at when I started lurking many years ago. For whatever a chronic lurker's opinion is worth, while I fully support an official codex content summary, I also agree with the sentiment that the thread has historical and cultural value as a primary source document that should be available to the public at large (I could give a shit about whether or not it remains locked).

It's just some plot to push a different thread as "best thread ever"
