Widescreen?

I recently bought a widescreen monitor and the thought occurred to me. Will it be possible to display AoD in a widescreen format without stretching the 2D interface? Is it even possible to render the game in those resolutions?

For that matter, please make sure you properly clip the mouse cursor to the AoD window. GalCiv2 was practically unplayable for a while because every other click went through to the other monitor and basically alt-tabbed me out.

Yay! Currently, and for the foreseeable future, my only computer is a widescreen laptop, and truth be told, most games look like crap on it in fullscreen mode.

1680x1050 is a particularly great resolution, support for it would therefore be appreciated by all (or at least me).

I too use nothing but wide-screen setting lately... since my new monitor is a wide-screen LCD. So if it supports 1440x900 that would be great though some of the higher res settings would also work just fine.

Still very anxious to play AoD. Though CoH has eased that pain and I am now looking forward to G3 more than ever.

While I'm on 1280*800, I would like to support 1024*768. I've never really seen the need to go above that, really.

Spend a few days working at 3840x1200, and I promise you'll never want to go back. I don't know what the hell it would offer for gaming though. :)

My desktop is set to 1280*1024, though the highest I ever go to when playing games is 1024*768.

It is the resolution of choice for people who want a big shiny widescreen lcd but can't afford one.

Oh my, a quick check does show a considerable bump in price between 1680x1050 and 1920x1200.

Carry on, dear frugal consumer!

Well I was only talking about games. I can see the benefits for working purposes - actually I have no problem imagining the benefits of 3 monitors at once there. No such foolery in games for me, though.

It was alot bigger a couple of years ago. Anyway assuming you are in the US you can probably buy a 1920x1200 screen for the price of a 1680x1050 here (UK).

It's the resolution for the best monitor on the market today, The NEC 20wgx2.

Another vote for widescreen support. Gothic 3 "supports" playing in a 16:9 or 16:10 resolution, but it still renders the images assuming a 4:3 display, so everything just stretches out. Every new 3D game I've played for the last few years has properly rendered 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratios, except Gothic III.

On the other hand, I have a CRT, so only being able to play in a 4:3 resolution isn't a super big deal. My monitor just displays the 4:3 picture in the center of the display with black on either side. I thought most LCDs supported doing that too, although I suppose the cheap LCDs might not.

What is the difference between 16:9 and 4:3?

16:9 is standard DVD widescreen format. 4:3 is standard NTSC tv broadcast format.

Or in other word, for 16:9, the width is 1.77~ times more than the height. And for 4:3, the width is only 1.33~ times the height.
