There's an interview on HomeLAN Fed with Serge Popov about Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire, which is an expansion pack for Jagged Alliance 2 based on a mod, apparently.

HomeLAN - The product description says that Wildfire will be more "realistic". Can you give us an idea on what that means exactly?

Serge "Wildfire" Popov - If you take a close look at Jagged Alliance 2 you will notice that there are many things that do not match reality. For example, there is no grass just green land, which doesn?t provide good cover. We have changed this, and also made modification to trees, shrubs, and boulders.

Another area where we made significant changes were in the towns of Arulco, adding more structure like houses for the citizens.

Probably the biggest change in terms of direct impact in the game, were the enhancements and additions of various weapons and armor in Wildfire. Most weapons and armor were re-balanced to better match their stats in the real world. Also new weapons were added, as mentioned above.

I always worry about games that advertise real as their biggest feature to thump.

Unless they are simulators, I agree. While I love Jagged Alliance 2, I doubt that I'll pay for what essentially looks like an officially sanctioned user mod. Especially now that I have Silent Storm, which if it sells well should have a pretty good mod community.

I'm guessing this is a commercial product, yes? In that case I'll wish the guy luck because he's going to need it. Increased Realism wouldn't even make it onto the top 100 of things JA2 needs. If he changed it so that the game was based in The American Civil War or a modern city setting, then I'd be interested.

<edit> I just read Games Domain's news item and the expansion/mod/whatever will ship with the full version of JA2.

The grass isn't real! Something must be done!

Free grass seeds in every box!

It made no sense in the original game that all the areas would look clean and lawn-mowed. There's gotta be high grass! Sheesh, it's a freaking jungle for chrissakes

Adding grass is cool, but making the weapons behave more realistically isn't a good thing.

Yeah, because we all know that getting hit with a gun, normally means your dead. And how many gun wounds can you bandage up in real life...

I think its pretty obvious that JA2 doesn't really need too much work and that this guy is just making work for himself. What we need in a JA3 with Silent Storm engine!
