What the hell's wrong with the videogame industry, it feels like half the games coming out from AAA companies are remasters/remakes at this point
Sometimes they remaster the remaster

Why do people buy into this shit?

Guaranteed they revamp the combat dramatically to be more like TW2 or TW3. I also expect serious simplifications to the alchemy mechanic. But if they can preserve its atmosphere and tone and some of the quest design, maybe it isn't a complete money grab for the ADHD zoomers. Well, at least it won't be as buggy as the original on launch, right? Right?

W1 is yuge gaym, an external studio won't be able to make this in a new engine, I can already see the "W1 remake cancelled" articles from 2023

https://www.thewitcher.com/en/news/46225/the-witcher-remake-is-in-development

We are thrilled to announce that The Witcher Remake is being worked on! That's right, the game that started it all is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.

The game is currently in the early stages of development at the Polish studio Fool’s Theory, where veteran Witcher series staff are involved. We, as CD PROJEKT RED, are providing full creative supervision.

The Witcher Remake is what you might know by the codename “Canis Majoris”. It’s still early and we want to ensure that the game is created with the utmost care and attention to detail, therefore, while we’re excited to share the news with you, we want to ask you for patience as it will be a while until we start talking about this project in detail.

“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED. “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

But probably no more boobie cards.

If the original is flawed/old and there is a real room for improvement, it makes sense to remaster.

the only thing that needs fixing from the first game is its combat.

I would prefer a greater variety of NPC designs. Too many of them looked the same, especially the non-generic ones.

W1 had:
-best music in the series
-best alchemy system
-interesting quest design, especially the chapter spanning investigation in Act 2
-amazing atmosphere
-best story in the series

And you can bet they'll fuck all these things up in the remake. Some characters will turn black or LGBT, quest markers will be everywhere, the act 2 investigation will be overly simplified. At the same time, they'll probably ignore the bad parts of the original, like poor itemization and annoying enemy design.

And this masterpiece will probably be "remade" as well:

They will surely casualize the RPG mechanics, so... :decline:

But probably no more boobie cards.
That is guaranteed

-best story in the series
Honestly it's more the ending and how ties to the game's theme that is an incredible piece videogame storytelling
For me W2 story is better overall

I hope that now they have the resources for it, they can fully deliver their original intent for ending though

the act 2 investigation will be overly simplified
The problem wasn't it was complex
The problem was that it was a fucking chore due to all that backtracking
It really tests your patience
So it's not susrprising to know that even back 2007 alot of people gave up on those early chapters

with one of the worst combat system ever.
Honestly this claim is exagerated
But it's been repeated so much, that when I fist played W1EE (with the Rise of the White Wolf mod) I fully expected to hate the combat
Was pleasently surprised to see it was an ok real-time combat system for a single character crpg
Not great, not terrible. Just ok.

I never played any Witcher games and actually started up W1 earlier this week to see what the hype is all about. I did the prologue thing, and so far my major impression is that the gameplay is shit. Cool intro cinematic though.

Codexers, tell me what to do? Do I keep playing or do I wait for the remake?
