Hi Codex,

I've never see anything about this french project (Solarfall games, France) on the Codex, and as my English skills are very poor, I prefer not to launch a dedicated thread.

It seems this long forgotten project (since a 2011 teaser : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6xH9sHsx1Y) now has an official devblog (http://umbragame.com/home/), and communication starts again. For now, there are only 2 articles about the level editor, but at least, it seems to "rebirth".

http://umbragame.com/news/

Umbra, is a HS based upon the Crytek Engine, the CryEngine, and for the AI, it is based upon something called the Kythera Ai System :) http://kythera.ai/case-studies/umbra).
here is an exemple of what this Kythera can do:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te46WEAWjog#t=15

for the features:
Solo and Multiplayer support

Free character developement - no class limitation

Featuring the powerful Kythera AI system

Large amount of weapons, armors and magic effects

Advanced craft system - build your own weapons and armors

Cook your own potions

Build your own house and showcase your gears

Mature story and quests

Discover mysteries of Umbra universe and develop amazing new powers!

And much more exclusive content to reveal soon !

And if if IndieDB is right, the game could be launch in March 2015:
http://www.indiedb.com/games/umbra

So, do you think it worths a news?I've done a research on the forum, but Umbra hasn't any dedicated thread. And as I said, I would prefer not to create a thread as I'm not enough skilled in English.

By the Way, a Merry Christmas to the Codex. :salute:

This pitch really needs subtitles. At 2:08 he says what sounds like, "Many personalization (sp) options are available, such as weapon customization and cuisine.."

:retarded:

Looks like a nice action RPG though. The main thing I'm missing is why do they need Kickstarter? The thing seems pretty complete already. The possible changes/upgrades from funding seem a bit lacking here.

YouTube subs say "such as weapon customization and housing". They seem accurate on the words you can understand, so subtitles are already there.

Ahh, excellent point good sir. And the kickstarter video also has subtitles you can enable.

However, it still sounds like "cuisine" to me :P

Any interest in reading a Codex interview with these guys?
I personally think the game sounds pretty interesting, even tho it's an ARPG.

I'm down.

Also, someone should rename this thread: " Umbra devs are kickstarting game for some reason"

Hopefully an interview with them would address what the Kickstarter would do for the development.

Regardless, visuals look great. Would like to hear more.

The game looks very nice. Too bad all of this talent is being wasted to make another fucking Diablo clone. As if we don't have enough of those already.

I backed it. It does look a lot like Lost Ark but without the silly anime characters/weapons/etc which is more my style.

They will hit 100k$ tonight... pretty impressive, game will be funded no question about that. Still waiting for the inevitable PayPal option to be available. :obviously:

If you've got questions for the Q&A/interview, feel free to post them here. I plan to send them the questions later tonight.

Find out if they plan to have character system and itemization like crappy Diablo 3 or more like godlike Diablo 2

Build variety, what've they got? Does the game encourage jack-of-all-trades, or are specialists preferred?

Yeah. Since it's a classless system, I guess it would be nice to know more about the leveling system, how do skills works, how do you get them, If there is some kind of synergy between them (like Diablo), if there are passive skills, how the attributes of system works, etc.

So... more full-plate wearing knights throwing fireballs and lightning around? No thanks.

- What are their thoughts about level scaling? Will there be any, and if so, how much etc.

- How are they going to balance crafting and finding items? Will some / most of the best items in the game be rare or very rare drops from boss monsters and not attainable from crafting?

Looks like you have 1-4 + mouse buttons for abilities. At a glance, that seems more like gamepaDiablo 3.

New update, also video showing the housing/loot displaying goodness.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw7M2mqAemw&feature=youtu.be

update said:
Today, we are going to talk about Umbra’s housing module!

We are completely blown away by the support we’ve received, to be at more than $155 000 already? AMAZING! Less than $70000 to go! Soon we’ll achieve our initial funding goal, and then we'll present to you the additional stretch goals we have planned.

We want players to have their own place of peace, an area of their own thanks to their hard work while fighting in the wild. We want you to showcase your trophies and hard earned items in a unique place that you build yourself! Are you ready? Then come join us to discover Umbra’s housing module!

Umbra’s housing module allows you to build your house from the ground to the walls, adding furniture throughout the place; allowing you to showcase armors, weaponry and trophy kills.

The following video is an early working prototype of the housing module, allowing you to see the possibilities and to give you an idea what it will look like once the game is finished!

https://youtu.be/Uw7M2mqAemw
We hope that you enjoy this video presentation! Let us know your thoughts and what you would like to see in Umbra’s housing system! We would love to see what improvement you would like to bring to the game.

We also want to mention that Crytek themselves will be running a stream for Umbra on the 27th. We'll mention this again with the link for the stream and the time when it will start in an update next week.
