    News from the front

On the 5th of July the aliens unleashed new horror upon us. Instead of they themselves attacking one of our cities they sent forth a mishmash of monsters to wreck havoc. Presumably these creatures have been cooked up by a "mad alien scientist" since most of these "monsters" are what we find here on our beloved blue earth - but in a much smaller size. X-com responded to this threat and landed on the island with the intent of killing all these creatures and saving as many island inhabitants as possible. What X-com discovered was giant locust swarms that frenzied for human blood, and even more perplexing some kind of mass of worms with telepathic / mind altering abilities. Very dangerous indeed, especially for unarmed civilians. The locusts didn't prove to be much of a challenge for our experienced aquanauts, but the worms did show worrying abilities while still being easy to kill. In the skirmish they somehow managed to panic one aquanaut and put two other to sleep through telepathy. There were no casualties among X-com, but unfortunately some of the civilians were killed or turned into some kind of weird worm zombie.

X-com has slowly been stepping up on the underwater USO war. The budget was re-planned to carefully step up fighting, and it proved useful. While technicians work on underwater fighting drones. X-com HQ ordered in more Seamaster-ships with D.U.P torpedo capabilities. One on one these ships don't stand much of a chance, but attacks in tandem have been proved successful. This in the long term mean that X-com can shoot down more USO's which leads to more captured equipment and tech. We are also hoping on behalf on X-com that they feel loss the same way we do. But since we don't know the alien USO capacity there is only hoping that we are actually making a dent. In other tech news the new aquanaut armor is completed - while providing more armor and flexibility it's does not have a guaranteed effect on survival since the alien ground weapons have been proved to be much deadlier than anticipated, especially their heavier rifle versions. As a last tech note, X-com has now a third base constructed out there in the vast oceans - location withheld for obvious reasons. It will provide the organisation with extra sonar capabilities and strike-crafts.

X-com underwater craft patrolling the seas

On the 12th of July X-com sonar managed to pick up that a medium sized USO had landed in the Atlantic. While dangerous - it is too good of a price for capture that just can't be ignored. While the mission was declared a success with all aliens killed and tech captured - the now infamous Codex squad had to pay a heavy price for it. Everyone assigned to the mission died in the fighting, except one man - Commander. Kutulu. The lone survivor, while taking grievous wounds himself managed to signal the capture to X-com high command after crawling inside the Triton and pushing the "auto-home-navigation" -button. We here at Federal Network salute all these men dying. Keep up the fighting!

With this incident many have questioned X-coms ground tactics. Is it really sustainable to lose this many men on one mission? One obvious trap to avoid is night-time missions, but as it's not always possible to wait for daylight these missions will always be considered extra dangerous explains X-com's PR-representative. The reason X-com can't wait for better circumstances in some cases is that the alien crew usually blow up their crashed USO after a day or two if they can't manage to repair it. Which is a loss in itself since X-com as stated need the tech for continued resistance - he explained further.
    --------

This month started so good. Shot down a couple of USOs. Had a great terror mission, killing weird monsters to the left and right. Everyone increasing stats, ranks, in other words X-com and Codex squad were doing great. Then we spot a medium sized USO ready for the taking... and boy that turned out bad. Always dangerous with night missions, and well, I expected a couple of causalities, but not 90%! The last two deaths took the cake for me. While killing the last alien through reaction fire he managed to throw a nade and got two men. It's just pure luck the whole mission didn't go to hell.

Kutulu got wounded for the third time and surviving. MediantSamuel that turned out to be such an excellent killer with his gascannon got wrecked by a Gillman - unfairly I think! He managed to plug that bastard with a armor piercing bolt right through the chest but he didn't care at all. Storyfag also showed great promise but was cut down way too early. If only the men could take reaction fire when an alien decides to open and step through a door [IMG]

But amazingly enough we are still hanging in there... somehow.

That last mission was glorious. But that gillman kamikaze attack at the very end... :deadtroll:
I wonder if that was coded into the mod.

    News from the front

X-com faced a serious setback the last mission they took on - having almost their whole best squad wiped out. Luckily some veteran remained on base and are now up for duty teaching all the new recruits the ropes. Throwing rookie aquanauts into the fray and expecting them to perform is a dangerous tactic, but under these grim circumstances it can't be helped. Support staff like doctors, technicians and other custodians are working 24/7 to provide the best for our men and going by the latest missions (while sustaining some causalities) it is working wonders.

X-com doctor doing what he does best - saving aquanauts

The USO war rages on, but it has once again proved difficult to maintain the progress needed. While X-com can and still will shoot down alien USO's they have been massing in size and numbers. Anything heavier than a small USO encounter is still considered too dangerous to approach, and small USO's are no childplay in itself - since the aliens have stepped up air cover for their scouts. Seamaster ships are still somewhat capable but the underwater conflict is now considered a losing battle that in its current rate are spiraling out of control faster than expected. Sadly, this fact have not gone unnoticed with more and more conglomerates and countries who are now signing the so called "peace treaty" with the aliens. Which for X-com and our general safety means that our protectors (the protectors of Earth) are getting less and less funding each month. Let's not despair fully though, the market is still screaming for alien tech, private companies, countries etc can't wait to get their hands on the tech. The main danger here is that when desperation increases remaining ethical gets tougher. Regulations on who buys this rare and dangerous equipment gets loosened up. Case in point; we have seen Sirius cultists with alien-shard weaponry - which would seem counterproductive (equipping your enemy) but I guess in these desperate times: money is money.

In other news the ground tech is going forward. The aquanauts going on missions now can fully expect to have top of the line armor and ammunition. While not always killing an alien in one hit, it's much better than what X-com started with. Dear reader, you have to take into consideration that most of the deadly fighting takes place underwater - where we - technology-wise has been stagnant for many years. X-com have basically propelled underwater tech (with the help of the aliens) forward at least 100 years. Now even the mystical highly volatile material Zrbite found in USO's has been into made into ammunition for our troops, which increase explosive effect with at least the double. Just one small step in what is many steps forward in the fight against the aliens!

    ----
Not too much happened in this session, except some deaths unfortunately. So some of you are already on the fifth clone :) Overall, except these unfortunate "accidents" the missions went really well. A couple of missions capture and a shit-ton of weird human hybrid mutants killed. Always good for stat-padding I guess! Looking at the campaign, and how certain mechanics work in this mod - I can't say that I'm too hopeful about the future for X-com aka this campaign. This mod is much harder that I thought it would be. I thought it was more like the 1.13 patch for JA2. You know, it just adds a lot of stuff, but nope. These new mechanics are really killing me. With that I mean all the damn USO escorts, they are damn hard to take down and with no research in sight on how to improve my own ships... it spells disaster. Also there is a base I need to take out, but I feel way too intimidated by it. The tentaculat alien is seemingly un-destructible. I have no idea how to kill them. Oh well, we will see how it goes. Until next time.

Finally the Codex pays attention to this mod, even if it's with a stream lp, shame. Will watch pieces of this once I have the time (and get bored of XCOM Files).

    Haha.

Sorry, it's not abandoned. Just not felt 100% X-com the last couple of days. Will continue soon. Or well, continue might be a stretch. Playing out the death rattle more like.

Just a warning, if you ever use Steam to host your pics, they remove the links after a couple of months. Just noticed that the hard way. A lot of older posts of mine have broken image links now. I have changed all the links here to imgur, hopefully that will make them last... for a bit.

If the campaign becomes unplayable, what about a new one with like the xfile mod? I know the best mod is still xpiratez but good luck not getting banned on twitch.

It might help if you used bookmarks for key points in the Youtube uploads. Eg "first terror mission", "base management" etc.

Don't think they ban you, I have seen other streamers play the game, with boobs and all having no problems. Maybe if you get mass-reported but X-com is pretty niche. And I will see, have to finish this one first :P

Yeah, you are right. Though, I'm not too serious about the uploads. It's mostly just to keep the vids around since Twitch delete everything within a couple of days.
