First week of any modern game launch is sponsored content. Big streamers are paid 4 or 5 figures to play it for a few hours so it's not a good predictor. The other day I had a youtube stream on for background noise and the host said he was cutting youtube and tiktok off because the sponsorship only paid for Twitch. That's how bad things are now, people stream to selective platforms based on how much they're paid to play on those platforms. Twitch being the primary place to be bribed.3rd most popular game on Twitch, higher than CoD/Warzone!
What even is "this genre"? Modern military shooter but with fast paced action and abilities? Are there any good, online mulitplayer FPSs of this genre?
Hell if I know, that's why I'm asking. Modern military FPS, small lobby, small map, short TTK?What even is "this genre"? Modern military shooter but with fast paced action and abilities? Are there any good, online mulitplayer FPSs of this genre?
XDefiant’s player count at launch makes it a record-breaking debut for Ubisoft, one that even topped Apex Legends’ day one numbers.
This is a record-breaking start for the French publisher, as XDefiant now counts as its “fastest-ever game to reach 1 million unique players.”
Rushed out? No. What we have is an engine that has only ever been an MMO. And so all of the infrastructure for an FPS has had to be built up from the ground floor. Even CoD started on ID tech which was a shooter engine. Apex started on a shooter engine. But for us we are working on developing all new tech in an engine that was designed for something else. That being said the engine is really great but it does require a lot of work and with that work comes a lot of bugs that other engines have already worked out. We're not a shooter that's been out for 20 years. If you like what we are trying to do stick around and you'll see things improve and new features get added. But if the game isn't for you that's ok you can move on.
Source: Pure XboxUbisoft free-to-play shooter XDefiant was all the rage when it finally arrived on Xbox Series X and S back in May, heck, we thought the game was rather good when it first launched. However, despite a surge in players during its release window, things are apparently looking pretty bleak for the game right now.
As per Insider Gaming, workers at Ubisoft San Francisco are reportedly "pessimistic" about the game's future. This is because player numbers have "declined rapidly" since the launch of XDefiant just a few short months ago.
Worse yet, it's not just the future of the game itself that's being questioned here. Recently, Ubisoft San Fran suffered major layoffs - and the team is seemingly preparing for more of that in the coming months. Here's one of the direct quotes within the report, from an unnamed developer:
"Expect more Ubisoft San Fran layoff headlines within six months."
The report goes on to say that the higher ups within Ubisoft at large are "betting" on XDefiant Season 3 turning things around, but with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launching before that content drop, the team is going to have some stiff competition in the FPS world towards the end of the year.
Of course, this is all reported information at the moment, and we haven't heard anything from Ubisoft on the future of XDefiant. Either way, we hope that those who've worked hard on developing the title keep their jobs and continue to make great games for us all to enjoy.
