So, which are the games that, no matter how many times you've played (and, posssibly, finished) them, you still keep coming back to - up to the point that some of them actually never leave your hard drive? Obviously, non-story driven games, such as simulation or strategy games, have an advantage here, but even those RPGs or adventure games you've played to death may have left such good memories that you can't help replaying them once in a while. My list :
- Civilization III : Conquests (the only civ game I've ever played. I've seen lots of reports that other civ games are better than III but I'm just content with it as it's the one I used to play as a kid)
- Close Combat (any game of the series really, though I tend to replay single player CC2 and CCTLD or CCLSA mods in MP most often)
- Achtung Spitfire (great top-down flying sim, see here)
- Tropico (great caribbean-themed island management sim. Play it with Paradise Island expansion)
- Crusader Kings (the first installment, with Deus Vult expansion and DVIP. Although the game's broken, I just love that interface and those medieval faces too much to move to CKII).
- Jagged Alliance 2 (best game ever made, I replay it with an old 1.13 version that doesn't have too much bullshit in it, and with APs leveled back to 25. I need to retry Urban Chaos though, great maps).
- TES III : Morrowind (I come back to it every 2 or 3 years and continue my old playthough where I've left it - still haven't finished the game once but I'll get there one day)
- Baldur's Gate (I or II, with mods and new parties each time)
- Vampire the Masquerade : Bloodlines (obligatory poster below)
PS: I wish I could put Fallout 1 and 2 here but I've played them too many times and opted for a no playthough policy until I've mostly forgotten the storylines and characters. Could take some time..
