Either yours truly and a bunch of real ex-girlfriends and fictional cum dumpsters I feel sentimental about at a given moment, or, more lately, characters of celtic myth via Celtic Tales.

Either names fitting the setting, like I'd use in PnP.

Or Kike Krusher, Nigger Gravedigger, Mudslime Maimer, Beaner Basher, Sambo Slicer and Dr. Zyklon, if I'm running with Kodex Krew.

Usually something fairly reflective of the setting and character's portrait/class. I feel like if the game had a even half-decent story or atmosphere it'd sort of be ruined by having your characters be called 'PenisMan', 'Darth Vader' or 'mage2'.

I use my middlename, which is Fischer, or my last name, which I won't disclose ;)

Also sometimes, Daedalos. Or sometimes something that fits the lore and setting of the game in question.

It implifies dignity, and the capability to fuck people in the ass.

No seriously, its completely random, as sometimes i care about the charactername, and sometimes i dont. My current char (kotor2) is named Sarkem Sol. I dont know why.

Dale or a variation of. Daleius for aod, Daleovich for UnderRail, Dale Vrah for BG2 etc. Don't know why Dale. Sounds like a stand up kind guy I guess.

Usually I name them after authors of russian literature or characters of their books .

Griboyedov , Bulgakov , Raskolnikov , Zabolotsky etc ...

But sometimes I think of new names , I can't really remember all of them , but here are some examples .

Estebar , Ligheart , Klofman ...

1. Usually random [fantasy] names. My thief is always named Lefty.
2. Yes, but who isn't

In party based games it's me + my friends going on an advanture. Otherwise I just use my middle name or some kind of corruption of it.

If it's a single character and it's required to be male, I tend to just use my pseudonym, it's not too out of place in western fantasy and it fits right in with Japanese stuff.
If the characters have preset names, I tend to just keep them rather than rename them.

When it comes to rolling parties, I just grab whatever name I think sounds nice and posh, and build the characters around them. eg, I might make a red mage named Elsa, or a bulky dwarf fighter named gregor, or a paladin/knight named Elizabeth, etc.
I don't really care to experiment with innuendos, or doing silly things like being called 'kun-kun-kun' and 'kun-kun-san' by the Persona 4 cast.

Cool story bro :)

I never give my characters retarded and unrealistic names. Of course maybe for some people it's fun to have a party that consists of Kurwa, Fucker69, UltraBitch, Fag.

Since i lack imagination i usually just google for fantasy, hispanic, viking names etc., whatever suits the setting. And use first character as my avatar with my name if he's human, same with single-character rpg's if i play as human.

For party-based games, I design each set around some theme. For example, below I have a recent attempt at IWDII with a party of dark elves; each is named for one of Edgar Rice Burroughs' black martians.

I used to go with Zed for my main character but nowadays I just make up lore-appropriate names at char gen. Except for wasteland/modern setting games, where I still go with Zed.

Exceptions are games like Diablo or MMORPGs where I often name characters after metal bands, or obscure product brands. I once named a character after my umbrella (Knirps).

So, I've been playing some ol' Might&Magic VI, and God, those fucking caverns never ends. My woman is making a dinner and cleaning sth behind me. She asked me for a hundred time why do I play those ugly, stupid games. I replied that M&M is not stupid and ugly - it's a piece of art. And in 1996 it was probably the most beautiful PC game. And I have started showing her my game. Screenshot included:

Suddenly she saw the names of my party which are (rough translation from Polish):
-Holy Dick
-Fag
-Forest woman (don't ask)
-Fucker
And she went crazy. She just could't believe that I have named my characters so vulgarly. She asked why and my response that I have done it for fun and to better remember who is who in my party only made it worse.
Now she is mad at me.

In b4: retardo || move to gd || cool story bro

So, how do you name your character?
Also, am I retarded?

My GF names her characters (in Sims and various "bland" rpgs) in a similar fashion. You clearly need to find a new GF.

I switch between efforts at serious sober and laughably profane depending on what I'm expecting from the game and how many names I've got to drudge up. I've got a standard 'real' on for single player that's my old DnD one, but I just as often go with Rimjob. With party-based games nowadays I tend not even to spend the time since I know the names won't make a difference either way after the first few hours and I won't even register CrustyCunt as anything but that bitch who can't land a hit.

I mostly pick names of my friends from MMO days. This way by looking at name I know what role they fill in party

Oh, naming in MMOs. Reminds me of my miserable attempt at getting into SWTOR.

Rolled sith character on RP server. Got to the first team instance. Was joined by a Darth Vaginus. On an RP server. Ragequit.

MMOs, man. Never again :)

I actually use derivatives of my internet alter ego, which is based on my dead cat, RIP. With that, I make up names that fit to the setting of the game and my character race, gender and class. A generic human fighter would be Ser Robart and a rogue would be Robroy or something like that.
A party would be named depending on setting, normally I make up a quick life story and name the char fittingly. Sometimes I get very self-conscious that what if people knew that i fucking created these lame generic characternames, and then I dig names from history, novels or movies.

I used to play as Christian Bale for a few years. That started with finding a bg portrait of Bale in the internet, photoshopped with an armor and stuff. lol

I just pray the developer included a random name generator that spits out something a least remotely fitting. :D
