this thing looks like it's still in the really, really rough early stages.

It looks like Bannerlord + Totally Accurate Battle Simulator.

Could be good, but the larger battles look like they might be a fuckfest, just like they are in TABS.

Large battles are a clusterfuck in warband even when units are so close your swings get blocked by allies standing behind you like in seiges.
