Your argument is extremely off. Movies are specifically made to be watched. Do you watch people watch movies? Are you saying the only video games people record themselves playing and people watching are competitive games? Doing a cursory search shows the exact opposite. The most watched people playing video games are non competitive games by a fucking mile and a half.
You're not thinking far enough. Cooking shows are one example. You get way more benefit from cooking yourself, yet they are popular. There's a few reasons.
1 the host might be very funny, charming or entertaining. In this case this is like watching Bob Ross paint. Many people who don't paint at all love his show. Because they love him and his voice. It brightens their day.
2 the host might be informative. Humans like seeing things done at a top level yes. Yes, you can cook yourself. Or play the game yourself. But watching someone who is excellent at it can teach you things you didn't know.
3 the game in itself might not be fun to play but have an excellent story or premise or atmosphere despite this. In this case watching someone competent and likable play it can be fun. Examples are NieR, Deadly Premonition, Drakengard...
Listen here. I'm not expecting you to agree or understand. But I think it's fair to say that if shows about driving and cooking are things, this is no better or worse.
Also, quite a few LPs are excellent. The LP scene core used to be extremely elitist with high production value standards before the trend came to Youtube.

2) Games are specifically made to be played by anyone who buys them. Movies and shows are specifically meant to be watched. Any video game meant to be watched is a fucking show and not a game anymore.
3) RPGs specifically, what this site is supposed to be about, and what is supposed to be the binding factor between all members of this community, are about creating your own story. And most of the rpgs most of the monkeys on this site like are so fucking easy anyone older than four is a master. What is the difference between watching a true master play Knights of the Old Republic and a fucking murdering degenerate SSD champ who sucks at everything like Fluent playing KotOR? What is the same is that anyone watching someone play that game is a fucking waste of life who should be shot in the face repeatedly.
4) It takes years of dedication, pain, blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice to be a master of a real sport like football, basketball, boxing, and MMA fighting. It is much less of a commitment to be good at fake girl sports like soccer and golf, but still take a decent commitment.
Video games are made about football, MMA fighting, boxing, etc, because they are fun to play and not that fun to do the real thing. Just like cooking, painting, MMA fighting, etc. These things are not inherently fun and are not meant to be fun. Great cooks make great food, great painters make great paintings, great fi9ghters have great fights....but great video games are supposed to be great fun to play. They are specifically and 100% made to be played by you and not watched by you.
Watching someone good at his craft is fun. Doesn't really matter that much what the craft is.
Movie critics are good at their craft - do you watch them watch movies? Do you watch authors write? Do you watch professors grade papers? Do you watch bureaucrats befuddle and confusticate? Do you watch architects draw plans? Do you watch accountants account?
Video games are a craft that anyone who isn't retarded is good at. Period. And are specifically meant to be played and not watched like shows about cooking, pawn shops, cops, surgery, or movies.
Why not play the game and have fun playing it rather than pretending watching some fucking retard play a game is always an esport of master Arena players of WoW duking it out.
