Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (2014)

The sequel to 2010's Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, in ToO Lara and rival treasure hunter Ben Carter (also featured in the laughable Lara Croft: Relic Run and other spinoff material) accidently break an ancient seal in the depths of Egypt's Great Pyramid, releasing the imprisoned Gods Ra and Isis but cursing themselves with the Mark of the Dead. The four heroes must seek out and destroy Set - who has taken over the realm of the dead and plans to overrun the world with his monsters - before the Eater of the Dead devours them.

The game was absolutely savaged on steam upon release, with players complaining of horrible performance, frequent glitches, connection timeouts wiping saves and collectible progress, and a generally inferior experience to the first game. I can't say I ran into any of these issues in the single-player campaign, and in fact I probably enjoyed this a little more than GoL. The combat is more fast-paced, there is a greater variety of enemies, movement seems more responsive to the keyboard and mouse input, lighting effects are incredible for a mid-budget game, and the soundtrack is perfect for an upbeat, traditional-style Tomb Raider title. The boss fights were a great deal of fun - particularly fighting off Khepri atop a flaming fireball as it hurtles down the passages of his temple - and feature some light puzzle elements without slowing down the action too much. It's also slightly less linear than Guardian of Light, with an overworld map that players can explore more than once as seasonal conditions open new passageways or create icy ledges to obscure collectibles. It's a bit pricey at the moment (averaging 15 pounds or so without any DLC) but I strongly recommend giving it a try once it hits bundle price. Just keep the steam reviews in mind - I was probably just very lucky not to run into any problems. As much as I'm enjoying Rise of the Tomb Raider so far, I kinda wish the main series was still made with this same commitment to fun gameplay and aspirational heroism over pseudo-cutscenes and mental breakdowns.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I realized that I've never completed the arcade version of original SF2 (not the Turbo version). The game aged gracefully and the 2d graphics are really fluid and have that old Capcom magic. When I'm fed up I'll try for extensive Alpha 3 phase. Bonus old lulzy videos at the end. Blanka and his eyes popping out when he is hit is really a comical sight .

Now this book has a kill recorded. Truly a legendary book. Especially since the writer of the book also was the murderer.

Started unemployed, low-to-average rep/coaching qualification, got this club. Not bad! Underperforming club, should be top three in the league, bosses only want a mid-table finish. No problem!
