Hi, i am searching for rpgs (off or online) that have a kind of "content blocking" based of items. For example you can not beat a boss because your items are too bad, so u can not go forward with your main/storyquest. Do someone know a game that have this itemfocus? I just Know games they have levelfocus or nothing, so u can just rush too the end of the game.
thanks for help

Well, the Black isle D&D games have enemies you can't defeat without having enchanted weapons. Also there is a fantastic dungeon crawl called Demise: Ascension where you have to have higher grade weapons to be able to attack creatures at lower levels. There are also bosses there you can kill only with specific quest weapons etc.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but either suggestion is challenging and fun.

Look to older RPG's and some of the older MMO's that haven't completely revamped their games. Most games today are designed with the attitude that one shouldn't be penalized for their lack of planning and general preparedness. So, "Content Blocking" in terms of gear and the like isn't as common these days. It is unfortunate, but that is what you get when you market to the general public. If you really like "content blocking", I would suggest EQ primarily. It is a serious content progression game to which you MUST pay attention to your gear in order to progress. Many of the older MMO's and RPG's have varying levels of this design, but EQ is the one that really sticks in my mind when I think about that.

Oh... I don't know... because they want an actual character development game that tests your attention to that development rather than handing you a fucking trophy for simply pushing buttons.

Dungeon Siege 1 made me farm. I only developed 2 weapons at once, however progressing in the game made the farming take longer and longer. Eventually I activated a cheat to run through the end and found out I would have never made it "legally" there if not for farming 3 months. Of course the creatures later on were difficult to impossible as well with this non-farmed equipment and skills. Also I believe creatures dropped random items, sometimes good ones. The key to success would have been to focus on 1 weapon type only, similar to MMORPGs, but I didn't know it at that time. It was frustrating, because I was used to RPGs where protagonists could fight with multiple types of weapons. Once I started a real MMORPG I made the exact same error (skilling archery, sword and magic) until I realized how these games work: you are not supposed to be a multitalent.

Really? Maybe "early" on, specialists had their day, but very quickly it was determined that "multi-talents" were the gods of MMORPGs. Do you not remember the issues with Paladins, SK's, Bards, Shamans, Druids, etc... in EQ? What about WoW? What it came down to in those game is "multitalent" classes became king because the fucking idiots out there that couldn't stand not being able to do everything "teh bestest" when they played those "multi-talent" toons. These days, you have to be a complete fucking moron not to pick the class that has the general focus. They will be at the end of the day, the most powerful character in the game, as you can see by looking at the progression of MMO's since their inception.

Demise: Ascension has item farming and then some, as in quests to find specific items in the depths of the dungeon that will also block a character from leveling further. Should be exactly what the OP is searching for.

Most roguelikes require some sort of 'ascension kit' of basic resistances and passive bonuses to have a shot at winning.

Path of Exile is also pretty reliant on gear, since the only classes that don't rely on weapon damage get their effective hp pool (energy shield) solely from equipment.

Though in any multiplayer game, there will always be the option of having someone else do all the fighting for you and bring you to the endgame and dump gear in your lap.

Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
Gothic is somewhat reliant on gear as well as character skill. Wouldn't call it farming though.

Thanks for all answers.

Basically any MMORPG with gear-check raid bosses.

What MMOs you know that have that? I liked WOW BC for example the Brutallus Boss in Sunwell, 30.000 Raid-DPS or Wipe, this was nice Times.

Item farming games are "ALWAYS" simply pushing buttons.
