Holy shit I want that game so bad. It's the roguelike I'd have made if I had the skills. I wrote a design document about a roguelike where you cannibalize other robots and everything. And it's visuals are fucking amazing. Reaaaalllly fucking wish I had the money to spend on it.

Prob will buy despite horrible price and alpha status

I did buy it but I think it still needs some balancing especially in the beginning where you can be swamped by hostile bots quickly as even getting a pair of legs and ONE gun weighs you down enough that fast bots get more shots in than you because you are weighed down. Another thing is that there are no experience levels as you apparently evolve somehow but I can't tell as I die on the very first floor as of right now.

Wow, I really dig the visuals they've come up with. Looks aesthetically pleasing yet sits in the realm between ascii/tileset - fits with the sci-fi theme. Sound effects go a long way as well.

Wow, some kind soul on twitch gave me a copy when I mentioned the game, only been fiddling with it for a few minutes, but it's awesome so far. Seems like at the very start you are meant to avoid the actual fighter robots and scavenge for parts, because they annihilated me every time I tried to fight them with my shitty gear. Guessing armour is a necessity for any real combat. Though you can prey on neutral/harmless bots easily enough.

I seemed to be able to walk over them when I had flying movement. I think perhaps the game has a collision system so 2 ground based units can't move past eachother.

But yeah, just blow it up if it's in the way and you aren't trying to stealth around. Or hack it.

I got the improved thing btw and have a key for sale if anybody wants it. 20 bucks worth of shit on steam is the asking price.

It's not worth 20 bucks though. Game has a lot of potential, but needs a bit more work. Though it really does look like it could become great later on. Anyways, if youre a sucker like me that cant wait for shit drop me a PM.

I'm a horrible salesman.

An homage project of sorts to the (older) Mystery Dungeon games---primarily Shiren the Wanderer. Tastes vary, but the dev has been working on this from ages on back considering, IIRC, it began as a handheld homebrew project and slowly trod the road to desktop proper here after various overhauls to the art and all else.

Not sure where it goes from here, but as with all of them as of late, how well it does on Steam could well give it quite a boost.

Been playing PosChengband lately in full ASCII and I gotta say I love the game but I'd like to say FFFFUUUU to the Icky Cave as I always die trying to get to the place because I can't find the entrance after going out of the world map view. I think I've been in there ONCE. It's easier to get to the Orc Caves so for my next character I'll just avoid the damned Icky Caves.

Fun race/class combo is the Beastman Chaos Warrior: you get your own mutations on top of the random ones from your demonic patron which could make or break your game. It's like playing with Xom from DCSS but the patron only messes with you when you level up :D.

Can recommend Stone Soup, solid roguelike. Hella hard
You should try playing Gargoyle fighter. That little cunt can stack armor so high that I had AC over 50 on character level 18.

It also has a wonderfull set of intrinsics:
1.
Natural AC: Gargoyles receive a large innate boost to AC relative to your XL. Gargoyles get +2 AC at XL 1, and this rises every few levels.
More AC, thats how you get to over 50 so quickly.
2. Increased GDR: A Gargoyle's GDR is calculated as though the base AC of the body armour they are wearing is 5 greater
The AC you get is even more effective in stopping damage.
3. Petrification resistance: Gargoyles cannot be petrified.
May not seem very awesome but is hella usefull agains basilisks and those gorgonlike bulls that calcify you. You just dont give a fuck about them anymore.
4. Rot resistance: Gargoyles are composed of stone rather than flesh, and thus cannot rot.
Again, not a big deal but another thing you can simply not care about.
5. Gargoyles are immune to poison.
Great thing because in the current DCSS having poison resistance does not prevent you from being poisoned. On other chars you can get one star of poison resistance max and you will still get poisoned and annoyed by it. Very helpfull in Snake Pit and with early kobold with blowguns or snakes.
6. Electricity resistance: Gargoyles are well insulated and take little damage from electricity attacks
One less resistance to get on your gear. Again, may not sound like a matter of life and death, but when you gonna met those eals that shot lightning from deep water, or serpents that explode in sparks you gonna be glad you had it.
7. Partial torment resistance: Gargoyles take 1/2 normal damage when affected by torment. This resistance does stack with other effects that reduce damage of torment.
Great for 15 rune games as it help with the torment being thrown around the lowest levels of Hells.
8. Unbreathing: Gargoyles can survive without breathing.
Constrict this bitches! Also, no confusion from clouds without the amulet is cool too.
9. Life Protection 1: Gargoyles have one innate level of resistance against negative energy (rN+).
One free star of life protection, helps with the annoying draining. I once had the unique Thief stole my wand of draining and proceed to zap my ass with it multiple times, fun times!

All of this for the meager price of having 20% less hitpoint and vulnerablity to Shatter and LRD.

Really, go Gargoyle Fighter of Okawaru and with just a bit of caution at the start you will easily get to at least late middle game.

If anyone is looking for a decent coffeebreak RL, there's DemonhuntRL, a Java RL so it should run on just about anything. Comes with some decent music and sound effects too.

It's decent. The combat is somewhat simplistic due to being a real-time game with a single melee move, but the multiplayer feature is fun to do and it plays a lot like Ultima Underworld.

I really can't get enough of Brogue.
Excellent dungeon generation makes the levels a joy to explore, unique graphical style, different weapons can really mix up the combat in interesting ways, lots of info directly apparent to the player, and the thing I like most :
no race\class nonsense. Welcome to the dungeon, here's a dagger and some leather armor. Good luck!

I've been playing Brogue again recently as well, trying to go deeper this time. Not having much luck this time around though, and the one awful thing about Brogue is some times it really does just fuck you with the RNG. Welcome to floor 12, hope those darts can handle ogres because we still haven't dropped a single fucking weapon yet and your dagger got corroded after you drank a hallucination potion LOLZ.

The most interesting part of the game is making choices of what to take from vaults, so it really sucks when you don't get any and instead have some utterly worthless monkey slave instead.

Well, this certainly qualifies as a viable run:

Edit: LOL nope died the next level to a room with centaurs and acid jellies and ogres and payalysis traps. Fucking christ it sucks balls having no way to fight acid jellies.

For the acidic jellies you can remove your weapon and armor and fight them bare handed. It also seems you have Wand of Negation, you can use it a on them to remove their corrode ability. I prefer the bare handed method.

Spear of Quietus and Guardian Charm is damn good combination.

You can bare hand the acid mounds, doing that to jellies will fuck you up, unless you have a massively enchanted transference or regen ring. I guess blowing another wand of negation charge was the way to go, but it would have been the third time I used it just for that, and I really didn't want to spend enchanting scrolls to recharge it. I thought I could make use of the paralysis gas traps and my staff of conjuration to wiipe out most of the enemies, but the third time they triggered the pattern was slightly different and an ogre got a coup de grace on me.

Guardian charm is nice on occasion, but the fact that the AI flees from it makes it pretty situational. Negation, shattering and levitation charms are all much nicer to have. Negation charms are especially a godsend for removing various nasty effects from yourself without needing a potion of life. In retrospect, I should have dumped more enchanting scrolls into that thing so it was available for the jellies more often.
