Played it for 3 missions, seems to be fun. I read that they don't plan to wipe accounts?

Not sure if I wanna play without sub though, all that bonus xp and shekels.

After getting nation's level to 4 it really slows down without subscription. Anyway, I really like it, feels good man to shoot down planes and the controls are very fluid. Will keep an eye on future updates.

If they will only leave paying for extra XP and cash i can live it with, i don't need to have all planes in 1 week, and it's a viable pay model because you don't pay to win. So playing this for free is perfectly viable like LoL.

Wow.... im surprised. They even got a charioteer in there. I can just imagine the look on SerB's smug, asiatic face.

Idk who cares, you only get XP and cash for it and the premium planes are the same as ones when you level up.

Oi!
No idea if anyone of you is still playing this, but Patch 1.31 is near the corner, introducing clans, many changes, new planes and maps. In 1,29 they pretty much raped the economy, and people say that 1.31 is going to make it slightly better. I hope so, as I came back to this game after a while.

They are also vocal about ground forces. Here are the first (actual in-game) screenshots of tanks:

That Tiger looks sexy.

Looks good. Maybe I'll redownload the game. :)

They also plan to add naval combat don't they? Which brings me to this, did Russia have a navy worth mentioning during WWII?

Naval Combat is still not added? Meh, I swear World of Warships will get her sooner.

Nope.

Makes me wonder what they'll do with the naval portion then. Just have US/GER/JAP/UK(possibly) ? Though to be fair, I suppose I could ask the same question with the Japanese and ground units. I'm not sure the Japs were known for their tanks, were they?

No chance. Russian devs, remember. The USSR navy will be in the game and it will be glorious. Jap ground units can be as under-represented as their air units are now.

Yeah, that's the problem of Eastern European games. Their units are always flawless, great and what else. Just look at World of Tanks or War Thunder earlier days (In Arcade: MiG's are pretty much the best jets, Yak9t used to own everyone and Tupolevs were tankier than B17)
In historical mode, russians are pretty underwhelming tho'. Only MiG's are destroying everything but rest of them is pretty mediocre.

Russian navy was pretty unimpressive during WW II, but they had few things Gaijin will probably implement, like:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kronshtadt-class_battlecruiser

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opytny-class_destroyer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soobrazitelny-class_destroyer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tashkent-class_destroyer

and a lot more, so I guess it won't be a problem with filling the tech tree. Japanese ground forces, on the other hand - might have a problem with filling the spots. They will probably implement things like premium german tanks for japanese, but other than that, there ain't much machines to fill the whole tech tree.

Some of the prototypes were used in combat. The lack of heavy tanks is disturbing tho'

:salute: :bro: Thanks for the information on the Russian Ships.

Yeah, Japanese prospects look a bit dim in terms of ground units but I expect they'll make for it with their navy? Going by the Battlestation Midway (and it's sequel/prequel) lineup, the USN and IJN line seem pretty meaty.

Hello ladies and gents. Here we go with 1.31 patch which was released today. Ofc new economy was delayed, so some people who didn't liked it would need to wait a little longer (What's the point of the patch when you can barely buy any new plane with current economy? :/)

http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/40331-war-thunder-update-131/#entry515671
http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/40357-new-economy-model-delayed/#entry516097
and FM changes:
http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/36303-fm-update-131xxxx/

Seems like a pretty solid and good patch. Too bad they didn't shipped a new economy with it. Personally, if they would fuck it up once again, I'm leaving this game for good.
Where the fuck is my Horten Ho 229? :/

Oh, and be careful with your first match after this patch. Depending on nation you picked, you should get a free premium rank I plane (always something). Personally I'm going for American one.

Meh, this patch cut my FPS in half. :decline:

Have ya tried installing new GPU drivers? Many people had the same problem, and it helped in most cases.

After some testing I can say that new damage model is pretty awesome. Also, money/exp gains now depend on how much damage you have done, so it's slightly more forgiving to people who used to score only assists. New clouds are also awesome. Problem is, Lavochkins are once AGAIN(they were nerfed before, and worked pretty good) UFO's, climbing like mad in no time. It's funny to play historical battle in bf109, gaining 7k altitude, and meet LA-5 who is 1k above you...
:hmmm:
Oh, and other new russian planes are also made of motherfucking magic wood or whatever. Not only agile, skyrocket climbing - but also dealing lots and lots of dmg. MG151 Minegeschoss got nerfed, so once again Russian ShVAK's are the best 20mm cannons, obliterating everything. Oh, they improved hispanos a little, but they still feel inferior to ShVAK's.

I tried that, it didn't help whatsoever. Quite a shame, I was taking quite a liking to this game.

That rhymed. Woo.

New economy. Advantages and disadvantages of two previous models have been taken into account

1. Prices for buying new planes, modifications, specializations reduced
2. Battle trophies introduced. This is an additional reward that may be received after battle in AB, HB, FRB.
3. Chance of receiving a battle trophy depends on your performance in battle, time spent in the air and number of players in game session.
4. After-battle calculation of damage dealt to a plane is changed, now more parameters are taken into account, thus making calculation significantly more precise.
5. Repair costs for some planes increased. For certain planes repair costs were reduced.
6. Rewards for actions in battle have not been changed, Which means that a plane with 100% reward ratio in new economy will receive the same reward as a plane with 100% reward ratio in old economy. Reward ratio changed for some planes, some increased, some reduced,

And they introduced it yesterday, so I had a chance to test it already. Planes are much cheaper now. Last patch I had to pay around 1,3mln for tier 16 planes, and now it's 890k. Crew and engine(ammunition and other things as well)/fuselage polishing prices went down too. Some planes are little cheaper to repair, while other are much harder to maintain now (mostly those overused and overperforming in Historical Battles)
In my opinions all these changes are pretty cool. Economy is definitely better than it was. Of course people are constantly whining on the boards, because this or that. I believe that current prices are fair, especially with that random "trophies" thing.
As I mentioned them already, these "Trophies" are kinda tricky. They are based on your performance in battle and RNG (But I guess it's 95%RNG as I had it only twice, and I'm almost always on the top of the table) and vary from additional 1000 eagles to 1mln. Basicly, if you're lucky you can sometimes get additional 100k eagles. Fun stuff, I guess.

tl;dr - new economy is better than 1,29, but not really groundbreaking. They should lower repair cost a little more and introduce absurdely expensive money sinks (Eg. conver silver eagles to experience using free experience ;>)

Tried this the other day, having an arcade mode (respawn allowed) with the full realism settings would be nice but otherwise I havn't had this much fun with a game since a long time.
Matchmaking mostly puts you with people with the same kinds of planes and skill definitely goes a long way. Even in arcade mode the amount of detail to plane dmg etc is satisfying: Shoot off wings, shoot off tails, kill pilots, fuel leaks, engine fires. Not to mention pulling too many G's puts your pilot unconscious and wings can snap in dives. Weather is accounted for and im sure im missing some stuff too. Either way these things combine frequently for some pretty awesome moments. Map's vary from historical battles to a mix of mountainy, ocean and flat terrain map that are satisfying - glide up and down sloping hills weaving between trees, circle round mountains, fly underbridges or inbetween supports, watch tracer fire streak into the water infront of you as you try and shake somebody. :bounce:
I wonder if they will add some wilder maps for arcade mode - flying in caverns, asteroid fields, futuristic cities etc. That would be cool. Otherwise, fucking cool game.

Opera soundtrack is a major ++ too.

Anyone know how you look behind you? Its probably me just being dumb but I couldnt find a way to look around that dosnt move the plane as well. Newbie tips appreciated, so many planes to buy ;_;

Go to options -> controls in the menu, and under the View Control tab you got two unbinded keys "Look down" and "Look back". Both are very helpful. :)
I'm playing mostly historicals, but had my time with Arcade and if you havent figured it out yet - dont shoot straight into the aiming reticule. Sometimes latency, sometimes just increasing speed of the plane, makes it a total waste. It's better to shoot little in front of that circle as it is marking the plane in the middle of it (so shooting in front of the direction the plane is moving, gives your bullets much more chance to actually hit the plane)
Another one: when you got someone on your tail, don't fly straight, DON'T climb or turn (You can try that if you're in a turn'n'burn fighter) but wooble your plane in random directions, so your enemy aiming reticule will go mad. Most people don't know what to do in such situations, and you can actually survive.

You're in BnZ fighter? Don't try turning. It's pointless, even in arcade. I'll get no deaths and 10 kills with bnz fighter doing proper boom'n'zoom on enemies, instead of getting 5 deaths and 5kills with turn fighting.

Aaaand another one: click, click, click, click while shooting, especially in historical battles. Holding the left button will drain you out of ammo in no time (While most bullets will simply miss)

That sounds very Captain Obvious.
