So, I was digging though my old junk and what do I find, 20 year old 1st Ed AD&D modules. Including that ridiculous "Septulogy" (2nd printing)
G1/2/3 - Against the Giants
D1/D2 - Decent into the depths
D3 - Vault of the Drow
Q1 - Queen of the Demonweb pits.

This is such a hack-and-slash that it amused me to no end re-reading (about 1/2 way done). You basically go on an exterminatus mission (WIMMIN N CHILLINS TOO) - first Hill Giants, then Frost Giants, then Fire Giants (oh, modules for like 6 9th level characters!). That leads you to the underground Drow caverns where you march through 50 miles of tunnels, and a couple of more towns of underground "evildwellers" before you head to the ABYSS to face Lolth, a Demigod!

I am probably just smoking crack, but this would be pretty funny cRPG, although not much for the C&C. Probably a NWN mod would be best, but really it's more of a fantasy party based FPS and would look nicer in 3D.

Can I get a hell ya? And an artist?

Weird. Joe Bloch, a big name in the OSR (and a guy that usually knows what he is talking about) disagrees with you about the modules being hack and slash, at least as far as the "D" modules are concerned.

Joe Bloch said:
When correctly played and DM'ed, the “Descent” modules are actually a model for those who value political intrigue, role-playing, and exploration of what was (at the time) a new environment for play. They are also, naturally, quite deadly, and foolish or unprepared characters will find themselves at -10 HP in short order. Neither hack-and-slash nor stealth-and-stab should prove worthwhile strategies for these modules.

Still, I am all for CRPGs that are closer to PnP. You get my hell :yeah: Can't help you with the artistic side, though.

It was done in FRUA, as "Queen of the Demonweb pits".

I am not sure the giants part was there though, I only remember the D1 to Q1 parts. Giants were done in KOTC though ;)

Insert clever insult here
Yup, KoTC did the hill->frost->fire giant parts. But it's a pretty cool continuum in any case. Weren't the Circle8 guys planning to use that material for a mod/conversion of ToEE? Or maybe it was one of those megalomanic IE-modders.

What would your ammunition be for this FPS. Or are you making Point-Blank shot from 3rd edition a baseline ability.

They are just modules .. but since they cover a very LARGE area, all that's listed is essentially a few maps and combat stats + loot of everything there. So they have the APPEARANCE of hack and slash. Also, 10th Level wandering monster tables are funny... "Vampire" , "Lich"...
