An image reduction widget to reduce huge images

In general, many screenshots and other images are unnecessarily large. Yet there is no way to reduce them except externally. In the past, it was possible to do it by putting images into quotes, which would reduce them to clickable thumbnails. In a way, that is still the case - you click an overly wide image and it blows up even more. But there's no limit on height, it seems.

Is there a way to return this option? It is too much of a bother to resize the image on your own and upload it elsewhere. Perhaps even with several available sizes, like "thumbnail" (a bit larger than avatars), "medium size" (800x600 max), etc. Let's say you want to create a nice little gallery with clickable images - isn't that so much better than scrolling and scrolling and scrolling?
