The sci-fi <a href="http://www.planetcopperhead.com/main.htm">Copperhead siegelet</a> for <A href="http://www.dungeonsiege.com/">Dungeon Siege</a> has been released. Basically, it's a total conversion, makes the game in to a sci-fi one. You can snag it from <A href="http://www.fileplanet.com/files/120000/126239.shtml">FilePlanet</a>.

I was actually considering buying Dungeon Siege (I got Max Payne instead,) mainly because I liked the look of this mod. I've heard DS described as a "screensaver" for all the interactivity contained therein, so could someone point out the game's main flaws. I've read reviews and they've all been favourable, yet people here and elsewhere don't like the game very much.

Basically, the game inherently suffers from poor design: there's always a ton of enemies all around you, and they're usually hidden by trees, bushes, each other or just bad camera angles. So the designers had to introduce a shocking degree of automation to make sure you wouldn't die all the time. Thus, the game basically involves moving your character forwards a bit while he kills the enemies.

I never had a problem seeing enemies, it was just the constant hack n slash that bored me.

I'm rather amazed this game got such good reviews considering there's really very little game to it. The phrase shocking amount of automation pretty much sums it up, because the two most interesting parts of an action CRPG, levelling up and combat, are actually done for you. When you use swords a lot, it raises your melee skill and your strength periodically for you, so what you advance is basically decided exclusively by what you put in your character's hand. That's all there is to experience gaining, so there's not much to look forward to really. No popping up the character screen and planning and tweaking your character, so.. ho-hum there.

In fact, the only thing you can really choose about your character is what they look like. Everything else basically depends on what you put in that character's hand. What's in the character's hand determines what advances, which in turn determines what armor they can wear. It's really rather silly.

Many thanks all, that's pretty much as I suspected.

This paragraph in particular makes me think of The Sims.
