I actually dropped the game halfway through the burning mansion prologue. It was hard to believe the game was going to get any more interesting.

Yes, and that would be all good and relevant if I were discussing the quality of DS3 itself, however, I was talking solely about the tone of the reviews (which are lukewarm but not negative).

It's relevant in that any positives scrounged up in those reviews are overstated.
