Astromarine - thanks for the impressions. Now my long wait to get it (can't get it here, so have to wait for my parents to bring it in mid-April) will seem even longer. One thing I liked about GalCiv was its attempts to reduce micromanagement - looks like they've come up trumps with GalCiv 2

They gave the Fun Factor a "10" so shouldn't the game get a perfect score? Afterall, isn't the point of playing games is, err, having fun?

A word of advise: don't bother getting the GalCiv 2 torrent that is on The Pirate Bay unless you have a working serial number. It's the preload version of the game, so you'll have to download the last part of it through Stardock (which requires a working serial).

Turns out that there is a way to circumvent the problem people were having with the TPB torrent.

I just bought the original GalCiv yesterday for $1.99.

The box and the case were a little damaged, but everything installed and seems to work fine. Sometimes EB Games is not evil.
They also had Bull Run for $20 so everyone should go buy it.
