I really enjoy the micromanagement element to rts games, some more than others. Starcraft is a good example however the game has become relatively (relatively !) basic in regards to control options. More recent selections include various stance or attack moves and special abilities on most units.
Are there any reasonably active or soon to be released rts games where battles at the average skill level require movement tactics, the employment of fast or mobile units and a liberal use of special abilities ? Preferably in a futuristic or fantasy setting.
I know of Dawn of War sounds really obvious, my brother has all the cds besides Winter Expansion. I should have started playing regularly months ago. The hardest part to enjoying a good multiplayer rts game is comprehending and learning the basics: builds, basic resource management, unit match ups etc
If there are other options it would be good to know what they are. I dont really mind if the average player base is strikingly low assuming there is some constancy in who plays (ensuring average to advanced skill levels) and that I can reliably play on weeknights.
One recent game that seemed interesting but which I have not heard much about is Saga, if someone is at all familiar with that game Im curious to know how it turned out.
