I've almost exhausted all the options available to me from mainstream rpgs, so I think soon I will get into the indie scene. What I'm looking for is good C&C and well-written dialogues. Everything else (like combat/tactical options) is significantly less important to me. So if it doesn't have those first two then I don't want to play it.
So, here are the games I'm considering. Let me know if my impressions are wrong.

Prelude to Darkness: Seems like it has everything that I want. It will probably be the first one that I play. I know VD thinks highly of it, but what do the rest of you who have played it think?
Geneforge series: These games also seem to have a great deal of C&C, and the setting sounds interesting. The only complaint I've heard is that they are all basically "the same." Are they the same in the sense that Fallout 1 and 2 are also the same? Because I don't mind that as long as the dialogues are good.
Avernum series: Open-world games that appear to be more like dungeon crawlers than rpgs. Also are "the same." It appears that the gameworld is dynamic based on your actions, with towns being detroyed and the like, but what about dialogues? C&C isn't meaningful to me unless I feel like I'm interacting with living, breathing human beings.
Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome: Haven't really heard much about this game, except that you can lead your tribe into an alliance with Rome, or not. That's good but what else?
Eschalon: Seems to mostly be a dungeon crawler with minimal C&C. I likely won't be playing it unless someone can disprove that statement.
Did I miss anything?
