Armchair Empire has reviewed the icy dungeon crawler, Icewind Dale 2. It's about nine paragraphs long, and ends with a 7/10, without really saying anything at all. Here's the most informative paragraph:

Presentation suffers from an outdated game engine but remains impressive on some levels. Tiny character models and jerky animations are balanced by the astounding artwork on the character portraits. The 2D backgrounds are superbly drawn, capturing the stark beauty of the region ? you can almost feel the cold. The soundtrack is similarly impressive with the haunting melodies of the Fell Wood a stand out. Which, along with the strong narrative, saves the game from being mere rehash.

Yep, and if he had read my review of IWD2 there'd have been no need for him to write his own pitiful rendition.

(queue someone to call me an 'obnoxious asshole')

Why do you obnoxious asshole types have to write good quality reviews anyhow?

I've usually enjoyed Armchair Empire reviews. This one is surprisingly... vapid.

"CON: Menus haven't been streamlined"

I'm sorry? Did he not notice the gameplay interface redesign?

What do you expect? The reviewer in question also thinks the backgrounds for IWD2 are also "drawn", when they're actually prerendered models.

I agree with you about that site though, it's generally a good site. I'm not sure what's up with this review. It's short, and there's really no insight about the game at all. It reads like it was written by just looking at the feature page for the game.

Bless him.

I wonder where that idea came from? Probably there was one background in Baldur's Gate I that was hand drawn and then BioWare decided to mention this quite loudly in interviews, previews, and on the back of the box, expect they forgot to mention that most of the game isn't like that.
