Kotor II low performance

I don't understand why this game runs so poorly on my PC. When i'm facing an enemy my fps drops to 5-6 but when i'm turning my back to it , i think i have over 20 fps.
I just can't see what the problem is because i played Kotor 1 without any performance issues. They're both made with the same shitty aurora engine so theoretically kotor 2 should run properly.

My specs : proc - 1500 mhz , 512 ram , ati radeon 9550.

Any advice from you guys will be fine. Thanks!

Your ignore list.
First: open swkotor2.ini.
Second: Change the following if it's not already set.
[Graphics Options]
FullScreen=1

Third: What catalyst driver version are you using?

Alright, that's the problem.

ATI changed something since Catalyst 7.12 onwards and both KotOR's perform TERRIBLY SHITTY with newer drivers. 7.11 is the latest stable/functional driver for KotOR games and NWN as well.

You can however extract the catalyst 7.11 atioglxx.dll from the driver package and place it inside your kotor folder, so the game uses the older opengl driver version while everything else runs with the newer. Are you literate enough to extract the .dl_ file from the driver package and then expand it into the .dll file, or would you like me to upload the dll into a filehosting site?

Of course, you can still downgrade to driver 7.11 altogether but my process above eliminates the need to do so.

Does extracting the file in the NWN folder works too?

I had shitty performance playing NWN recently, but I just assumed it was because of the shitty integrated gpu I have (radeon xpress 200).

EDIT: Is "because of the shitty" or "because the shitty". Help a non-native speaker improve his foreign language skills.

Yes it does. Notice though that for NWN you need to place the .dll file on the same folder where the nwmain.exe is located. By default it's "c:\program files\neverwinter nights\nwn" if I remember correctly.

The first one.

Thanks, I think I could have figured out how to do it, but it's easier this way.

No , it's not working. I still have the fps drop when facing enemies. Even with the dll copied in the folder. Fucking programmers from obsidian ! Sigh...

Oh no, you don't. I played smoothly (except one place with smoke) on my laptop with 512 MB and GeForce 2 Go 32MB.

Not exactly. Models have more polygons.

What are your graphics options?

It seems like more games have problems with updated ATI drivers than NVIDIA drivers.

Easy fix: change the texture quality in the options after entering an area.
