MTW2 Mods adding to strategy layer?

Since I've been watching some movies and reading some books in medieval settings recently I suddenly got an urge to play MTW2, then I remembered how unbelievably shitty and non strategic the actual strategy layer was. So, my question is, are there any mods that makes the strategy layer be interesting and fun and, hopefully, strategic? I could play MTW1, but I burned out on that years ago and when it comes to huge fucking armies I feel a bit like a GFX whore.
