While North America is still waiting for the translation of Gothic II, reviews are rolling in from European sites. Case in point, VideoGamesLife.com have put up their review of Gothic II. They liked it quite a bit and awarded it the score of 82/100.

The process of saving life itself from annihilation will see you battle bandits, orcs and other creatures I won’t divulge for the sake of not creating spoilers. You’ll also have to do battle with one of the most badly designed and ludicrously thought out control systems ever created. Frustratingly slow, movement is hampered by your characters inability to maintain velocity: strafing even the tiniest amount requires the hero to stop everything he’s doing before letting you carry on. Ever so helpful when you’re being chased by a beast who wants to fashion you into a novelty hat.

It's hard for a game to overcome that sort of troubles, but if the content is good enough to make a game worthwhile despite a poor interface, that says something about the developers in question.
