When he has EVERY SINGLE core Poland has. Which is pretty stupid, you should only need to control a percentage. The main reason you want to become Poland is the Reconquest CB, which is useless if you've had to conquer everything before that.

Infamy is at 20.00, so unless I make a custom event to give an "acquire_core" CB against Austria, doing so would mean rape.

I guess I could do so.
Rather, you should modify the Form Poland decision to be available sooner (which would be something like control three or four states of Poland) and make a normally never firing event that reduces your badboy.

he needs to have to have all core provinces either conquered or in sphere of influence (which is basically impossible since all provinces are divided between russia, austria and prussia/ngf/germany, as all of them usually stay as great powers until endgame).

Can't tell if there's something more behind it but planes are something between artillery and cavalry - high recon (gives better placement of units before the battle and determines speed of capturing provinces). they also have 50% support (artillery has 100%), which means that they can attack from 'back lines' and help units in front of them (usually infantry) to attack enemy unit without taking damage. Another thing is, they can't fight alone and you'll automatically lose them if they encounter enemy.

tanks, on the other hand, are something between artillery and infantry. while they have no support value and low recon, they have much better attack then infantry. the biggest drawback is that they are really expensive to build and mantain

Planes got very high reconaissance so they speed up province takeover. Tanks work as excellent offensive (frontline) units with very high attack but low defense.

Has anyone ever tried playing with the Confederacy? I'd be intrigued to play as CSA, but I've read on other forums that it's pretty much impossible.

Oh and :salute: for the LP.

Based on experience from playing as Mexico...

It requires Mexico to win against America and Texas, which is actually easy if you make the exact right moves (capture the Texan province that borders America first, then capture all the other ones simultaneously. I guess it could also work if you shatter all the Texan troops then capture ALL provinces at about the same time so the USA can't really intervene.)

Then after that Mexico needs to fight in the American Civil War, and then Mexico needs to help the CSA with the endless hordes of American Pan-Nationalists. So in essence, impossible.

happened to me in like one or two games that CSA managed to win the war. Either USA had shittons of rebels and wasn't able to attack CSA or CSA got somehow more brigades then USA and was able to defend. Unfortunately, even with almost as many states as USA, they looked quite passive and after like 2nd war of unification, USA steamrolled them (CSA wasn't building more brigades for some reason.)

here's a guide at paradox vicky how to play as CSA.

There is no game where Spain doesn't become either communist or some sort of ultra laissez-faire dictatorship due to anarcho-capitalist revolution.

Also I found the only way to prevent the Russians from pussying out: editing the save game to give them war goals too, however. The war lasted almost as much as WW1, but I mentioned too much already. I have 91 screenshots(and this after trimming some redundant ones) so there will be several updates exclusively about this war.

You should consider taking both Moravia and East Galicia so you won't have to deal with the Austrians again.

Had I ignored this advice the war would have lasted much, much less time, but I guess this will make for a more interesting update. Finally, I added too new decisions, their condition checks are messed up and I gave up on doing it right but I'll refrain from enacting them before the due time. Here their codes will give you a rough idea of what they are about:

Code:
	form_poland = {
		potential = {
			primary_culture = polish

		}

		allow = {
			is_greater_power = yes
			prestige = 45
			war = no
			cultural_union = {
				any_core = {
						OR = {
							AND = {													is_core = PRU
								NOT = {
 									AND = {
										owned_by = PRU
										owned_by = AUS												owned_by = NGF
										owned_by = GER												owned_by = RUS
									}
								}												}
							AND = {													is_core = RUS
								NOT = {
 									AND = {
										owned_by = PRU
										owned_by = AUS
										owned_by = NGF												owned_by = GER
										owned_by = RUS											}

								}
							}													AND = {														is_core = AUS
								NOT = {
 									AND = {
										owned_by = PRU
										owned_by = AUS
										owned_by = NGF
										owned_by = GER
										owned_by = RUS
									}												}

							}
						}
				}
			}

		}
		effect = {
			prestige = 20
			change_tag = culture
			any_country = {
				limit = {
					NOT = {
						is_greater_power = yes
						tag = AUS
						tag = KUK
					}
					is_culture_group = THIS
					in_sphere = THIS
				}
				country_event = 11101
			}
			add_accepted_culture = union
		}
		ai_will_do = {
			factor = 1
		}
	}

This means that as soon as I seize all Polish territories taken by either Austria, Prussia/NGF or Russia, and manage to somehow turn Krakow into a great power, I'll be able to create Poland.

Code:
	form_polish_lithuanian_commonwealth = {
		potential = {
			primary_culture = polish
		}

		allow = {
			is_greater_power = yes
			prestige = 80
			war = no
			943 = { owner = { tag = THIS } }
		}
		effect = {
			prestige = 30
			any_country = {
				limit = {
					NOT = {
						is_greater_power = yes
						tag = AUS
						tag = KUK
					}
					OR = {
					is_culture_group = lithuanian
					is_culture_group = latvian
					is_culture_group = ukrainian
					is_culture_group = byelorussian
					is_culture_group = estonian
					}
					in_sphere = THIS
				}
				country_event = 11101
			}
			add_accepted_culture = lithuanian
			add_accepted_culture = latvian
			add_accepted_culture = ukrainian
			add_accepted_culture = byelorussian
			add_accepted_culture = estonian
		}
		ai_will_do = {
			factor = 1
		}
	}

For the ending stages of this LP. After all, the title is not about only rising Poland, but also about rising again the land of the Hitmen.

Although I failed to add other conditions, I'll be clear about when I'll enact this decision: only when every Lithuanian, Ruthenian, Latvian, Estonian and Ukrainian core is either owned by Poland or by a country under the Polish sphere of influence(meaning I'll have to crush the Russians and the Germans to hopefully make them release those countries, and then still have to put them in Poland's SoI(conquering them would generate too much BB to be viable), and when the city of Smolensk(which once was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) is in Polish hands.

In any case, update incoming.

why does Russia own the Norwegian coastline?

AI-controlled Sweden fails at choosing good allies(specially considering Austria has no access to the North Atlantic), and thus they were fighting against Krakow and Russia in the first war for West Galicia, and Russians decided to have it as a war goal.

Also I had no idea about reconaissance fastening province occupation, good to know. Only stats I were aware of the effects were Org. and Morale. Having a general with a morale bonus can be really helpful because Morale determines the regain rate of Organization like in Hearts of Iron.

War without end

lpvicky2greatwar001.jpg

In Lvov, more enemies are crushed, the war effort is costly but successful so far. However, more and more Austrian forces are coming fresh from their training centers, and something had to be done lest the advance is compromised.

lpvicky2greatwar002.jpg

Galicja1881.jpg

For strange reasons(Blockade?) Krakow was faltering at providing supplies for soldiers once in a while, further increasing the challenge of this conflict, however, their fanaticism and courage carried on as they had one goal to pursue, the only chance for the Russians to succeed according to the strategic overview as legions of Austrians were coming, this goal would be sought directly soon. Meanwhile some extremely good news come: Petroleum is found in Przemysl, and although right now its demand is not that high, soon it shall be. In its struggle to keep up to date in military technology as their greatest war for independence is fought, Krakow cannot dedicate to researches that would allow for oil refineries to be built in the region right now.

lpvicky2greatwar003.jpg

82094003.jpg

First Battle of Vienna

Daringly, most of Armia Krajowa prepare to race for their goal: Vienna, capital of Austria. By attempting to seize it they would become capable of diverting the enemy's attention from near everything else. It would be a risky endeavor, behind the safe front lines. If they miraculously could seize it, this would be a crushing defeat to the Austrian empire, to lose their capital. And even if they couldn't, if they manage to hold it long enough for the occupied enemy regions to increase, it would already be a greater strategic success, no matter the cost. Meanwhile, more victories happened, but they all would be overshadowed by this seemingly irrational goal of seizing Vienna so soon.

lpvicky2greatwar004.jpg

Bitwa_pod_Wiedniem_Brandt.jpg

And thus it has begun. Outnumbered, the near entirety of Armia Krajowa attempted to hold Vienna against more and more Austrian forces. They fought with upstanding determination, and the battle dragged on indecisively, neither side managing to make major gains while nearly thousands died every day.

lpvicky2greatwar005.jpg

After resting for a while to build up organization, a recently built artillery brigade begins to head for Vienna to support the defenders. Many months pass and it continues as indecisive and bloody as it begun, like the battles of the Great War: trenches, death, a few miles of ground costing countless of lives to be seized, and the defenders were having a major advantage against the attackers.

lpvicky2greatwar006.jpg

In face of their stand for democracy, and of being the only democracy of Central and Eastern Europe, Krakow is highly lauded by the United States of Kwanzania in spite of the Russians having before pulled them to write meaningless declarations of war to the same. Liberals all across the world, abolitionists and others laud the struggle of Krakow for liberty and emancipation of the Polish people.

lpvicky2greatwar007.jpg

A struggle they are ready to kill and die for, as the First Battle of Vienna reaches its climax: the defenders remain fighting fiercely in spite of being severely outnumbered, but the situation slowly seems to be reaching a decisive point. Amidst severe losses and death, meanwhile, the last henchman of Austria is feeling the harms of a war they didn't provoke, and with growing popular pressure, they do something that is a great diplomatic victory for this war.

lpvicky2greatwar008.jpg

And accept leaving the imperialist oppressors to their fate.

lpvicky2greatwar009.jpg

Ultimately, the defense of Vienna fails, but the enemy pay a large price for this "victory": for every Krakow soldier who died, three of them did, and while they were trying to secure their capital, the Russians secured many more territories, meaning that the primary strategic objective of this seemingly insane action was accomplished. However, while more and more months of long and seemingly neverending battles passed, entire drafted armies perished and were raised again by Krakow, where hundreds of thousands already gave their lives for the emancipation of Poland in this war, it became clear that Vienna was a very important goal to distract the enemy and buy time for the Russians.

lpvicky2greatwar010.jpg

Another battle happens in Vienna, lasting many months until the still not fully organized Krakow soldiers by the beginning of it are forced to retreat again. Entire brigades were lost, retreating to the wrong direction, but no matter how harsh the toll of fighting a powerful enemy like the Austrians was, Armia Krajowa never surrendered and never would give up.

lpvicky2greatwar011.jpg

The other part of those fighting at Vienna ended at Brno, and they had little time to rest from the battle they just lost, and unlike the first one, for unknown reasons, in the second battle of Vienna the casualties of the defenders have been much larger, but their survivors wouldn't give up.

Demobilzed, mobilized again, demobilized once seriously understrength, and so on... Krakow had a large reserve of men ready to fight and die.

lpvicky2greatwar012.jpg

Many great battles thus were fought in the region of Moravia. This was not a simple war. Sometimes Armia Krajowa was forced to choose which of the battles should be won and which should be forsaken, and others, mistakes were made as reinforcements proved insufficient to turn the tide of already ongoing battles. There was much bloodshed for this war, and now the stakes were higher: in face of growing victories and occupation, Krakow demanded also East Galicia and the liberation of Slovakia, while the Russians wanted nearly all Austrian holdings in the Balkans.

lpvicky2greatwar013.jpg

Few countries are so progressive and democratic as to have major political advances for democracy while fighting a massive war. With the growth of liberalism, total freedom of association for workers unions and the right to secret ballots are thus implemented, and soon the move to universal suffrage shall begin.

lpvicky2greatwar014.jpg

Reforms which do not depend from the party's will as the majority of the Upper House remains liberal. However, in spite of this the conservatives, because of their jingoistic and nationalistic agenda win another election. Politics carry on even at times of war, a war that has lasted for nearly 3 years already, since the last months of 1885.

lpvicky2greatwar015.jpg

Another major battle begins, and no matter the odds, the mere fact enemies are being tied up rather than hunting for Russian troops occupying Austrian provinces is an advantage, and if they manage to inflict far greater losses to the enemy, strategically it will still be beneficial.

lpvicky2greatwar016.jpg

In face of the brave campaign of Krakow for "freeing the Poles from dictatorial oppressors that seek to destroy both their liberty and their culture", and also in memory to a Polish general that participated of the Kwanzanian Independence War, the United States once again send another letter of congratulations to Krakow for their bravery and successes in the war.

lpvicky2greatwar017.jpg

By 14 February 1888, nearly half of Austria has fallen into Russian hands, and the war was clearly having one victorious side in spite of never-ending fresh hordes of Austrian soldiers being churned out occasionally. Unfortunately, however, the Italian government proved to be more defeatist and coward than Petain, and opened their legs to Austrian subjugation instead of taking advantage of the fact the Austrians were losing to retake Venice(In other words: the AI is fucking stupid in diplomacy and war treaties.)

lpvicky2greatwar018.jpg

Unfortunately, Roznava is lost, but it is no major deal, the fighting goes on everywhere. And despite wrecked, the Austrians continue to have new soldiers ready. There was even a time when it was thought most of their army was defeat, just for the allies to find that fresh new divisions were coming from their side. This war could last a long time.

lpvicky2greatwar019.jpg

Another improvement of Krakow's military happen along the war: the proper calculation of risks and probabilities in battles through statistical studies to give better informations for generals to make decisions in the middle of a battle. Meanwhile, a better system of logistics is immediately sought as the new research, and shall allow for the introduction of new Polish hussars.

lpvicky2greatwar020.jpg

While the Austrians scatter their forces in an attempt to retake the land they have lost, a new battle begins at Kosice. The battle of Brno never ended during all this time, and continued being fought.

lpvicky2greatwar021.jpg

Only by April of 1888 it would be finally over, with Brno successfully defended, but at a large cost of lives, mostly Russian as expected.

lpvicky2greatwar022.jpg

With Brno secured, another daring attempt to occupy Vienna begins, with the goal of luring enemies from other, more immediate strategic objectives, while the defenders of Brno join a poorly done attack against Olomouc. Krakow asks for the leading officer of the attack to be replaced by their excellent general Klemens Mierolawski(+4 attack), but the Russian aristocracy, as nepotic and decadent as it is, refuses because doing so would make the incompentent but socially connected general leading the attack like a butcher leading cattle to the slaughterhouse. And thus, many question why not just leave the Russians to their fate and pursue an independent strategy in this war... but in any case,

lpvicky2greatwar023.jpg

Total victory was both close by now, while also distant. It was a heavy toll, but to convince the Austrians of accepting their demands, they'd have to completely crush the Austrian Empire economically with this war, something that would require even more than this.

This war was not over yet, no matter how victorious Russian and Krakow forces have been in ocuppying practically an entire half of Austria by now.

This topic has given me reason to give Serbia or Greece a try.

Yugoslavia formed in real life, it will be interesting to try the same.

Plus fighting the Ottomans is super easy. They always get gangbanged and if one country overruns them then a massive land grab usually starts.

No. East, West Galicia and Moravia are the only Austrian-controlled states with Polish cores.

I think that the soldier POP growth rate is unbalancedly high, and also, you can demobilize and mobilize conscript armies instantly, meaning that as soon as your latest mobilized army got nearly reduced to zero, you can demobilize it and one day later mobilize it again and you'll get the same numbers you had before at full strength, and even better starting organization depending on how battered they were before. Because battles and occupation last a lot of time and industrialized countries can easily fund the continual construction of multiple brigades(I was doing this too with Krakow), this will be inevitable. Like mentioned, there was a moment I thought the Austrian army was totally crushed, then suddenly 42,000 soldiers rose from one of their provinces.

Although 90% of this bogged down conflict is because of the incredible geniality of the Russian AI. I've seen them have like 4 stacks of 4 brigades each surrounding a province with 3 brigades being attacked by a much greater number of Austrian soldiers, and they did nothing to stop it. The AI tends to prioritize way too much occupation over fighting and winning battles.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck that. There's challenge and then there's ramming yourself in the balls.

Especially in a game where battles matter so much more than occupation. It's almost exploiting the AI at times.

China is challenging until you westernize. After that it jumps easily from 66th uncivilized to #1 World's Great Power, specially if you have a huge reserve of money to fund industrialization because all starting Chinese parties you can choose are state capitalist. I guess trying to do WC with China would be a quite challenge maybe, but I personally don't like much Vicky and Vicky 2 combat mechanics and the way infamy works as a hard limit.

Also don't want to write original content for a change so I'll do like I did once in a certain update of another LP, at least until I run out of lyrics to copypasta then I'll switch back to standard style.

The price of liberty

Music

lpvicky2greatwar024.jpg

Hear the sound of a machinegun
Hear it echo in the night
Mortals firing rains the scene
Scars the fields
that once were green

lpvicky2greatwar025.jpg

It's a stalemate at the frontline
where the soldiers rest in mud
roads and houses
all is gone
there is no glory to be won

lpvicky2greatwar026.jpg

know that many men will suffer
know that many men will die
half a million lives at stake
Ask the fields of Eastern Europe

lpvicky2greatwar026.jpg

And as the night falls the general calls
and the battle carries on and on
How long?
What is the purpose of it all
What's the price of a mile?

lpvicky2greatwar027.jpg

Thousands of feet march to the beat
It's an army on the march
Long way from home
Paying the price in young men's lives
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It's an army in despair
Knee-deep in mud
Stuck in the trench with no way out

lpvicky2greatwar028.jpg

Thousands of machineguns
Kept on firing through the night
Mortars blazed and wrecked the scene
Guns in the fields that once were green

lpvicky2greatwar029.jpg

Still a deadlock at the frontline
Where the soldiers die in mud
roads and houses since long gone
still no glory has been won
know that many men has suffered
know that many men has died

lpvicky2greatwar030.jpg

Six miles of ground has been won
Half a million men are gone
And as the men crawled the general called
And the killing carried on and on
How long?
What's the purpose of it all?
What's the price of a mile?

lpvicky2greatwar031.jpg

Thousands of feet march to the beat
It's an army on the march
Long way from home
Paying the price in young men's lives
Thousands of feet march to the beat
It's an army in despair
Knee-deep in mud
Stuck in the trench with no way out

lpvicky2greatwar032.jpg

Young men are dying
They pay the price
Oh how they suffer
So tell me what's the price of a mile

lpvicky2greatwar033.jpg

That's the price of a mile.

lpvicky2greatwar034.jpg

Months have passed and the momentum was lost. The war have completely stagnated, and both sides were suffering massive, horrible losses along the trenches, each inch of land costing a massive amount of lives to be taken. It was along these unfortunate developments, of a seemingly unbreakable stalemate, that the second best offensive general of Armia Krajowa would sadly end dying in combat. He was a great man, involved in many important and victorious battles, and would not be forgotten. Despite several victories on defending Vienna, effectively seizing the capital of Austria was an entirely different matter for Krakow.

lpvicky2greatwar035.jpg

The Russian strategists began then to change the nature of the war. Their incompetence, their stupidity began to shine in favor of the Austrians, and what once was a stalemate began to revert slowly against Krakow. The entirety of Armia Krajowa once again would attempt to race for Vienna in the hopes of seizing it and drawing enemies away from the fledgling Russian Army, that stupidly kept entire brigades away from battle and at home even at such circumstances.

lpvicky2greatwar036.jpg

The enemy reached home, but was weakened there. They had to be driven out, and hopefully crushed as well. It is unknown why, perhaps an Austrian technological breakthrough, but a few months ago the Austrian forces suddenly became far more deadly than they were before, but fortunately the Russians also seem to have improved their military equipment and tactics during the war, but not as much as the Austrians.

lpvicky2greatwar037.jpg

The battle of Olomouc was a good example of this. The cost in lives to secure it was massive. Things were not going good at all, and unless Krakow did something capable of crushing the enemy once again as effectively as in the first two years of the war, they would get worse.

lpvicky2greatwar038.jpg

Of course Krakow commanders forgot for a moment the degree of Russian incompetence when being shocked by the number of casualties the battle of Olomouc caused. Liegnitz on the other hand was an incredibly impressive, even if small victory. The casualty ratio was incredibly disproportional in favor of Krakow. Enough victories like this one could once again change the situation of this conflict and push further and deeper through the heart of Austria.

lpvicky2greatwar039.jpg

The cost of diverting enemy's attention from other front lines to fight in Vienna got higher, and this strategy was slowly becoming less effective, a new approach ought to be found, perhaps going for the Mediterranean possessions of the enemy and capturing them could work while their armies were near entirely focused on the east front.

lpvicky2greatwar040.jpg

The Germans have for too long tried to destroy the Polish language and culture. They shall be given no leeway now that the rightfully Polish territory they seized and migrated to is returned to their rightful people. Also, regardless of it involving Germans, Chinks or any other people, multikulturalism shall not be tolerated in any case.

:incline:

lpvicky2greatwar041.jpg

The frontlines were encroaching both Budapest and Vienna. The Austrian's momentaneous advantage was lost, and now the war could turn both ways as the important battle for the capital of Hungary was fought along many other battles.

lpvicky2greatwar042.jpg

The successful battle of Liegnitz didn't repeat as the Krakow soldiers advanced further against the enemy.

lpvicky2greatwar043.jpg

At a massive cost of human lives, Budapest is secured.

lpvicky2greatwar044.jpg

The enemy is given no time to rest or reorganized. Unfortunately the war is not going well, it is simply stagnated and the Austrians capability of deploying dozens of thousands of new soldiers remains unchanged.

lpvicky2greatwar045.jpg

Olomouc is secured, but at a high cost of lives compared to the lives the enemy lost before retreating.

lpvicky2greatwar046.jpg

But for every victory, there was a defeat. The hopes of a quick, crushing victory after racing for Vienna and seizing it were shattered. This war could last for many, many more years yet, and truly, the price of liberty for Poland shall be very high in blood.

It's the Paradox. Their games become playable after 26 patches and 3 expansions.

Well, Paradox did fix the whole Change Ruling Party exploit which could be used by anyone to hit the sweet spot of Constitutional Monarchy and future under perpetual of the socialist party appointed by the monarch if they fail to win the elections.

However, it also appears that the game doesn't run as fast :rage:

Funnily Hearts of Iron 2 post 1945 is actually worse than Vicky 2 post 1900.

CENTRAL EUROPE!!!!11

I think that, historically, Poland belonged to both, back when they owned part of Ukraine, or more exactly, I'd say it is right in-between Central and Eastern Europe.

======================

Dangerous setbacks

lpvicky2greatwar047.jpg

More stagnation beckons the battlefield as another defeat happens.

lpvicky2greatwar048.jpg

A huge mistake leads to the loss of entire brigades, both sides suffered losses of this nature, and the toll of this war grew with every passing day.

lpvicky2greatwar049.jpg

The enemy seemed more effective and deadly in their fighting, and the cost of this conflict was getting too high, while slowly Russian forces began to lose ground, this couldn't be good.

lpvicky2greatwar050.jpg

The tide has turned

Against Krakow.

lpvicky2greatwar051.jpg

Victories were small, and ultimately failed to push the enemy further, simply ensuring the stalemate in some parts of the front while others were left to their fate, for Armia Krajowa could only do so much with their limited forces and the Russians continued performing idiotically in their strategy of totally ignoring ongoing battles to focus on occupation instead. The Austrian capability of raising armies remained untouched, and their legions swarmed against everybody.

lpvicky2greatwar052.jpg

Even victories causing much greater losses to the enemy were no longer so lauded and celebrated. This war has been going for too long, and people were getting full of it, while victory still seemed far, far away.

lpvicky2greatwar053.jpg

Vienna was close yet distant. The Russians were doing their stupid strategies instead of supporting the daring advances of Armia Krajowa, and things were going badly now.

lpvicky2greatwar054.jpg

They could push the enemy back, but defending Prague?

lpvicky2greatwar055.jpg

Even as the war carried on, another important reform happens: now everyone can vote, even though the middle and upper class votes count more. Would the swarm of potato-eating manboons voting mean the end of Krakow or the beginning?

lpvicky2greatwar056.jpg

Forward, retreat, forward again. This was so bleak, a utmost despair of men who had no rest, victories without impact or major importance happening but on overall, defeat could be as close as victory right now, like the Germans would so painfully learn when they managed to invade parts of France only to see their offensive stagnate during the Great War of another timeline, and have their fate sealed by the arrival of Kwanzania.

lpvicky2greatwar057.jpg

None of the major cities of Austria can be properly secured, specially due to growing logistical troubles and days soldiers had no deliveries of ammunitions, which reason remained unknown. However, giving up, now that hundreds of thousands of Poles have died for this, would be treason and defeatism, thus they shall go to the bitter end, no matter how long it takes for the war to reach a decisive state.

lpvicky2greatwar058.jpg

And retreating from Prague, they are immediately attacked, like always.

lpvicky2greatwar059.jpg

A slaughter, history would call. With defeats like this and being forced to choose which battle to support because of Russian idiocy, the situation may get much, much worse, and soon, through what were now going to be almost 4 years of total war.

lpvicky2greatwar060.jpg

The situation deteriorated further for Armia Krajowa, but surrender and giving up on the liberation of all rightfully Polish territories usurped by Austria were out of question.

lpvicky2greatwar061.jpg

More dozens of thousand freshly drafted conscripts thus once continued this tale of death and suffering along the trenches of this great war.

lpvicky2greatwar062.jpg

The enemy has reached on Krakowian territory. The situation worsens even further after a string of defeats, the Austrians had too many soldiers, and the Russians were too dumb to compensate for that. This unfortunate turn of the war was going full-circle now.

lpvicky2greatwar063.jpg

Kosice was a fortunate exception to this. While an even greater battle carried on through other front line. There was no rest, no time to reorganize fully, for if they waited, by the time they were fully ready, battles and territories would already be lost, and Armia Krajowa was too small to have forces recovering while others fought.

lpvicky2greatwar064.jpg

The enemy capability of slaughter and the Russian capability of assigning the worst possible generals to be at the greatest battles grew every year. The battle of Banska was deemed a pyrrhic victory at best, and a strategic defeat at worst. Nitra meanwhile was being fought over for months, undecided.

lpvicky2greatwar065.jpg

Outnumbered and exhausted, the defenders of Nitra needed immediate support or would falter. The battle began to drag, like all others, in the blood of the young.

lpvicky2greatwar066.jpg

More pyrrhic victories with heavy casualties happened as well while another great battle was waged over Nitra. Reinforcements from the west were marching as fast as possible to support this major battle, to hopefully have a major and significant victory for a change along this unfortunate turn of the tide and series of setbacks.

lpvicky2greatwar067.jpg

They come, and seemingly, but not certainly, the tide of this battle might have turned. Thanks to these brave men, Krakow might once again define the outcome of this war much more than the numbeful but incompetent Russian Army.

lpvicky2greatwar068.jpg

The Battle of Nitra was a shining beacon of hope for all soldiers. Another major battle were dozens of thousands of the best the Austrian could field were routed, it ended this period when things seemed to be about to collapse as a new wave of fresh Austrian forces advanced. The war was however still in its stalemate, stagnated, and this meant only that the Austrians failed to change this fact as much as the allies did.

lpvicky2greatwar069.jpg

However, not all battles end like Nitra.

lpvicky2greatwar070.jpg

And even as they just finished fighting one battle, the relentless Austrian attacks forced Armia Krajowa to immediately be thrown into another battle after Nitra, another battle that could be of major impact to this war. Setbacks occurred, but the conflict remains far from over, and both sides have equal chances of victory, although this war could last for decades, the way it is going.

Is this where I point out that if you hadn't hacked Mother Russia's war goals, they would have White Peace'd out a couple of years ago - forcing you to do the same.

Nice LP though. I had never heard of this game or even HOI, but it seems pretty cool. I would probably get annoyed with it after about 45 minutes, so I am glad you are playing it.

Also, my mother's mother's Mother was from Krakow. All my other relatives got Einsatzgrupped in '39 though. /Jew

Decline of the Austrian Empire

lpvicky2greatwar071.jpg

Another battle won, at a great cost. Such is the nature of this war now.

lpvicky2greatwar072.jpg

Hoping to simply overwhelm the enemy, the Krakow soldiers were completely disorganized when they launched an attack against Debrecen. The situation worsened every passing month, in the battlefield. There was one last hope for Krakow, to draw from another field of battle and seek victory. The enemy of my enemy must get a little push to take advantage of the war. And thus, several diplomatic meetings happened, to hopefully force the Austrians to fight in more fronts. Italy had a major interest in liberating their people from the Austrian imperialism, and an old enemy, that a long time ago was even the enemy of Poland, could be useful this time.

lpvicky2greatwar073.jpg

And thus soon the Austrians will have much more to worry about, but unfortunately the Italians, under the spiritual guidance of France, both surrendered and signed a truce until 1892 with Austria in the beginning of the conflict in spite of the crushing victories Krakow was delivering in the initial stages of this war.

lpvicky2greatwar074.jpg

Debrecen is secured, at a large cost of lives again. Meanwhile, soon time would come for the Austrians to have a taste of how pleasant it is to be carved by multiple countries, like they did to Poland. Vengeance was as much of a goal for this war than liberation of the Polish people. And thus the Ottomans declared war on then to hopefully seize a part of the country as well.

lpvicky2greatwar076.jpg

Mobilization's collateral damage. The Austrians were besieging home, and the war was going badly by now, but still favorable for Russia and Krakow.

lpvicky2greatwar077.jpg

The stalemate was the only certainty of this conflict. How many times was this same place fought over. Most lost their account of. The cost increased with every day, but they wouldn't give up. Hopefully the Ottomans, and if this war lasts 7 years, reaching 1892, the Italians, shall crush Austria.

lpvicky2greatwar078.jpg

An attempt to force the Austrians besieging Breslau out begins. Unfortunately the Krakow forces are barely organized for this but cannot wait any further.

lpvicky2greatwar079.jpg

They manage the goal, driving the enemy back, and thus rinse, repeat. This is how this war could be described.

lpvicky2greatwar080.jpg

The places fought over have been nearly the same over the last two years. However, another tragedy was being announced. The tragedy of

lpvicky2greatwar081.jpg

The enemy became truly deadly. Their technology advanced to a point where their effectiveness in warfare grew twice. This disastrous battle have wiped out dozens of thousands, and riled the defeatists and cowards about giving up.

However, there was something else being forgotten: how long can a country wage war until its economy completely collapses? The situation of Krakow was bad in war exhaustion, but not that bad considering how long this war has been going on.

lpvicky2greatwar082.jpg

The enemy suddenly manages another stream of victories with the Russian dumbfuckery as their ally, while once again, daringly Krakow attempts to secure Vienna for the nth time. Along so many crushing defeats, it was time for something to happen and give a less bleak perspective on this war. Bratislava: the Austrian attackers far outnumbered the defenders of Armia Krajowa there, and the fight carried on.

lpvicky2greatwar083.jpg

When finally, a great victory is achieved. But it wouldn't be enough to change the tides of this war, the uncertainty.

lpvicky2greatwar084.jpg

After resisting for days, once again they lost Vienna, once again they retreated at wrong directions to be slaughtered, and yet, in a grim awareness and willingness to die for their Polish home, most of them were ready to meet their ends as they fought to the last man.

lpvicky2greatwar085.jpg

And then everything started over again

and over, and over, and this war thus seemed to be fated to last forever.

lpvicky2greatwar086.jpg

With challenges.

lpvicky2greatwar087.jpg

Defeats.

lpvicky2greatwar088.jpg

And victories. And would it ever end? Soon this war would turn five years old, and there was no sign of it ever finishing. The Ottomans proved to be more incompetent and shitty than the Russians, leading to simply another stalemate. The situation stabilized, but didn't get any further ahead. There was a grim feeling of the people of Krakow about it. The cost perhaps didn't pay the reward, and perhaps all would be in vain, in the end.

lpvicky2greatwar089.jpg

Military logistics are improved, and a new type of Cavalry, the Hussars, may be called upon by Krakow in the future. Much ground was lost, but there were signs that Austria's economy was about to collapse from this prolonged war, leading them to the same chaos and disorder that brought the fall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

lpvicky2greatwar090.jpg

The misery Austria suffered in this war, despite their recent successes, was immense. Rioting was threatening to break the empire apart, and their people, mostly conquered and oppressed people of former nations rather than proud patriots like Krakowians, were yearning for peace. By the time Italy intervened in the war, considering how likely it would be for this war to keep going until then, there might be no more Austria. They might deny it, but ultimately, they have been utterly defeated in this war. Now they were presented with a choice: to either keep ruining their stability, economy and society, sending all their youth to the slaughter until their war exhaustion reaches 100% and the Italians come to finish the job, leading to the total destruction and partition of Austria, or to accept the harsh terms of Russia and Krakow, ceding all states with Polish cores to Krakow, giving independence to Slovakia and ceding most of their Balkan states to Russia. Like Germany in that other Great War of 1918, they weren't completely defeated, but economically and militarily crushed.

lpvicky2greatwar091.jpg

And thus the humiliating Treaty of Versailles(chosen because of the total neutrality of France in this conflict), is signed, marking the end of the days of glory for the Austrian Empire and the end of this bloody 5-years long Great War. From the blood of hundreds of thousands, Krakow has recovered enough territories to now have the potential of becoming a Great Power, and entitling herself once again as Poland once that happens. Five years of struggle, countless lives, but it fortunately did not end in vain.

lpvicky2greatwar092.jpg

But even as the people celebrated the ascension of Krakow, the complete liberation of all formerly Polish territories from Austrian hands, a question loomed darkly within the mind of the president of Krakow. Economically crushed, defeated and humiliated, how would be the political future of Austria? What kind of vengeful monster might have they indirectly created in the next century with this victory, tempered with rumors of Jewish interference in favor of Krakow?

Time will tell.
