:salute: :salute: Awesome, though it probably be more fun if you did a last "The Daily news" newspaper, where the amerikwans go full retard and demand the rest of humans to join the Hivemind Sirius Cult, or face absolute destruction by the hands of their new God.

I'm pretty much useless in this LP at this point, so I might as well help bump it to the next page.

EDIT: Or not. My uselessness is complete.

I apologize for the delay in updates, but as Darth Roxor mentioned a few times the last mission is long, especially when one has to move twenty units across several maps.

UPDATE 49 - Alien City

When we last left off, the order to launch an assault on the dreaded alien city, T'Leth, was given.
Armed with our best weapons and most protective armors, will our aquanauts be able to save earth from the alien menace ?

xowLe.png

As the Leviathan approaches the deepest parts of the ocean, the city comes into view.

Mpr0e.png

Only to find it began moving ! We've launched just in the nick of time, any delay would have proven fatal.

ajWFy.png

And it goes up at an astonishing speed, forgoing any safety precautions due to pressure differences.
Our Leviathan manages to keep up, but any mere Triton or Hammerhead would have been destroyed by the rapid ascension.

I4ean.png

The alien city is massive, taking it down will be no easy task.
Yet, from records of the Cydonia operation forty years ago, we can assume a central brain of some kind is controlling all the aliens. If we could just find it...

kEhs1.png

The alien city makes it to the surface before our team is close enough.

I5vGx.png

This is it, there will be no second chances. We won't have any time to launch another operation.

rlW19.png

Finally, the Leviathan boards the alien city through an unoccupied sub pen, one of the many we destroyed.

U1tHX.png

This architecture is reminiscent of artifact sites. Maybe those were parts of the alien city that fell off during atmosphere entry ?

5jvRZ.png

Tanks are sent first to scout out the area. The corridors are mostly empty, but contain vast amount of sarcophagi.

wA88x.png

Shepard stumbles upon an alien as he explores west. It's an aquatoid.

3NGiu.png

It proves particularly resistant to molecular control attempts. Banelion had to use his three attempts until he finally took over.

5OpMO.png

Making it turn around, he spots another alien through his puppet's eyes.

ujp6G.png

Time for some suicide fire.

S7cow.png

Both aquatoids are down, and Shepard and Mal will be able to fetch their tempting Disruptor Pulse Launchers.

pOKSa.png

Another alien is seen to the south. Still no shot fired.

e1bMb.png

Our tank reestablishes contact, and Banelion has no problem making the alien suicide again.

rKdDA.png

Another one is right here, but Banelion has used up all his attempts, and our other controllers can't do a thing.
The Displacer uses the last of its TUs to hide around the corner.

rmrEB.png

toastboy spotter finds an alien to the east.

8PPPa.png

He misses his shot, but Juggernaut manages to hit it squarely, saving the lives of the five soldiers nearby.

JXbCz.png

Another aquatoid lurks near Shepard and Mal.

ZpCaS.png

And Black IV finds one checking out a sarcophagus.

jEtuE.png

Banelion makes it suicide.

ucgdL.png

Shepard grabs some goodies.

NuStz.png

And our tanks keep exploring. They come across a large elevator, this is promising.

ru0jU.png

Pope Amole checks some upper level rooms for aliens, and finds disturbing machinery.

xzoxJ.png

An alien was found, and Banelion made it fire its torpedo at a nearby wall yet again.

St7Be.png

The large elevator leads to the exit area. Now we just have to move the rest of our troops to it.

Mwa18.png

Mal finds the alien lurking near him and Shepard.

8yUEf.png

This time, Banelion's help is not requested, as Mal fires his freshly gotten DPL and kills the alien.

Snz4j.png

Shepard finds another one.

KWE0Z.png

And does pretty much the same.

KSJBf.png

There was an alien in the elevator waiting for us ! Good thing it didn't shoot.

yGr7X.png

Our Displacer has no trouble shooting it at this close a range.

NVddn.png

Shepard, as he was ready to check a room on the upper level, suddenly falls unconscious.
No explosion or shot was heard, the team can but wonder about what happened.

Lxej2.png

There he is. Was he shot from above ?

TB14w.png

Mal grabs the soldier on his shoulder and begins lugging him to a medic, but Shepard dies the following turn.
He was probably shot by a Sonic Cannon... but it's strange that we didn't hear any gunfire.
RIP Shepard :salute:, we'll never know what hit you.

3h4O3.png

Mal finds an alien as he goes back for his dropped DPL.

RqN6X.png

He takes cold and precise revenge for his fallen comrade.

iLArO.png

An aquatoid tried a series of M.C. attacks on Mal. It failed to drop his bravery a single point.

QxzRD.png

Meanwhile, soldiers are slowly but regularly piling up in the elevator area.

eonAZ.png

And soon, all of them make it.

W6Om8.png

Time to embark for the unknown.

NaIej.png

And our team makes it down to the second level of the alien city. So far, the mission has gone almost perfectly.

BTW, can you intentionally die once so we can see the bad ending (if there is one)?

Very awesome LP, a shame I didn't catch up with this early enough to be a valiant meatshield for mother Earth. Regardless, :salute: to the soldiers that braved horrible alien abominations and the fire of our own commissars to purge the alien menace.

Shepard was standing on an elevator. Something must have shot him from above, although that wouldn't make much sense, since you can't fire DPLs like that, afaik, and iirc all aquatoids on the first level carry DPLs.

Regardless, FOR MANKIND :salute:

You make it look too easy :D

That's probably because so far, it has been very easy, much easier than artefact sites or alien colonies.

Sure thing, I'll post it when the LP is finished.

UPDATE 50 - Shortcut

At the end of the last update, the team was delving deeper into the alien city.

tiacO.png

The elevator eventually leads to a part much different in style. This time, it looks like the interior of an alien colony.

TJMln.png

Azira went a bit ahead of everyone, and spots a Hallucinoid in the shadows.

bav8p.png

He shoots it, but it's not enough to kill.

Iq2nY.png

Stereotypical Villain blows up part of the wall to let some of best snipers take a shot.

vfiJq.png

Oscar brings the beast down.

ZH50J.png

Golgepapaz scouts a small room to the east, containing some strange pods.

cJlIH.png

Time to take a shortcut. aRyan programs a torpedo to explode on the upper level, near a wall.

jPb5E.png

It blows up and reveals a path.

m9LH2.png

One Displacer is sent scouting, and finds a Lobsterman.

7KSpd.png

No problem for Banelion.

8lIzF.png

He makes the puppet scout a bit, and spots another one at the far end.

xBpsq.png

Banelion takes control of it too and makes it come back closer to the first one.
The squad leader is first weakened by a Displacer shot.

Z0WF3.png

Then stunned by a suicidal thermal shok fire.

0eSeb.png

Now, our aquanauts can move in.

hgNHY.png

A torpedo is aimed, to blow up more of the weak walls.

L08Kt.png

It travels along its path without issues, and opens the way to a large area.

q6Vm1.png

A pulser is used to deal with the two stunned lobstermen.

r3sFK.png

BayBee finds a Deep One hiding in a small room. We haven't seen them in ages.

mPodP.png

It falls easily to the power of the Thermic Lance.

ez0Ka.png

Our tank is now stuck, as it can't pass through one tile doors. It starts shooting at the wall and reveals a Tentaculat.

KznMx.png

The following shots are aimed at the floating brain, and it falls down in a splat.

GgCEO.png

Some more torpedoes are used to shorten the trip each soldier has to make.

MYquk.png

We can now bypass two large rooms to the north.

lxmpv.png

Juggernaut moves ahead and spots a Xarquid. We remember how much damage it did to our heavily armored tank, so he slowly prepares a pulser.

chZqw.png

toastboy moves in to assist, but checks behind him before opening the doors.
A good thing he did, for a Tentaculat was hiding in the corner.

lJr3d.png

BayBee brings it down with a couple Thermic Lance stabs.

7tGG6.png

The first pulser blows up, but doesn't kill the Xarquid.

JIkUj.png

toastboy spotter uses his, but it's still not enough, and now the doors are blown and Juggernaut is exposed.

TXkW1.png

He is shot once.

4XLjk.png

Then a second time.

7naqY.png

But our soldier fires back, and kills the seashell.

06Bfc.png

This armor is certainly tough, Juggernaut is unharmed.

D8Ur5.png

The elevator is in view, guarded by a Lobsterman.

BQwqf.png

Banelion takes control of it, and has it move closer to the stairs.
BayBee kills it the following turn.

d4u7A.png

The elevator is small, too small. We'll have to leave one Displacer to defend our rear.

8lMqi.png

And with this, the team goes on to the third and final level of the alien city.

TFTD seems to have an inverted difficulty curve, with possibly some "rollercoasters" along the way down, and this thread attests to it, considering how casualty rates diminished in the later updates and were far greater in the first ones.
