Alright, I'm in the mood for a dungeon crawler. Criteria: TB combat, party based... not a graphics whore, but want something that doesn't look like dogshit (so a graphics slut, maybe?). I would like something resembling a story, but it doesn't need to be especially good.

I've played Wiz 6-8, and I enjoyed them. Beyond that, I haven't played much in the pc realm. I'm not really into roguelikes, so please, recommend from there. Thanks to the ever friendly codex for your suggestions beforehand.

A few off the top of my head:

- Gold Box Games (Pool of Radiance (the original) and the two Buck Rogers games particularly)
- Temple of Elemental Evil
- Might and Magic 3-5
- Aethra's Chronicles
- Wizard's Crown

Get a demo of Avernum 2 and see for yourself. Or Exile 2, if you want something more old-school. Those are darn good games.

They are definitely not for graphics whores and the combat kinda sucks.

I will hi-jack this thread a bit for myself.
Basically the same criteria as above, except the view must be isometric/topdown and a game has to be from 90s. Hope I will uncover some gems too in the process - any recommendations?

If by "party based", he's looking for Ian to crit him with the SMG from behind, then yes, he might enjoy FO1.

Well, there is always Fallout Tactics, but that was released in 2001 and thus doesn't meet his qualifications.

Was Dark Heart Of UUkrul turn-based? Or would that be too old?

Yes it is TB. It also works on newer systems, or at least the original copy I have here does.

I second Realms of Arkania, Natuk and if you can handle it, Pool of Radiance from the Goldbox collection (the rest is open to you after that. Best to play the one with the worst UI(it isn't that bad) and improve as you go through the series).

If you can get them working, I suggest also playing Ultima 6, Worlds of Ultima: Martian Dreams and WoU: Savage Empire.

The rest of my recommendations require no graphics whoreism.

Disciples of Steel is another semi-forgotten gem from circa-92, a strong goldbox clone with an opportunity to take over towns, gather taxes and field troops in addition to dungeon crawling.

Whichever personalities you like best i.e Wrex and Garrus

Yeah, Wrex and whoever you find less annoying out of Garrus, Ashley or the imoen-alike Forget her name, most peolpe prefer Garrus but the occasional codexer has some weird sexual fetish for the imoen-sound-alike. Perhaps it's b/c she's the only female creature in the party that you can't shag. I'm guessing that sometime around 2100 the current Italian PM, Berlusconi is going to be dug up, re-animated and elected to 'world president'. For those who don't follow international politics, Berlusconi is an ex-mafia boss who was going to be imprisoned before he won the presidency and pardoned himself, who more recently has had numerous sex scandals for affairs with 18year olds, various hot actresses, porn stars and has recruited several porn stars into his party and made them members of parliament - I say 'scandal', b/c that's what the international press calls it. I've got family in Italy and apparently the Italian press / people think it's fucking awesome - finally a leader that reflects the Italian national image. I'm guessing it's their equivalent of when the Australian 3-term Prime Minister Bob Hawke held the world record for beer-sculling, his best distance being the fucking YARD GLASS ffs (yes, it's a yard of beer), and everyone else was horrified that we'd elected an alcoholic while Aussies basically went 'fuck yeah!' (our last 2 PMs have been complete nerds by comparison, but at least the current guy's popularity actually went UP massively when he got caught by the media going to a strip-club).

Anyway, I'm presuming Berlusconi gets elected and instantly repeals the entirety of humanity's workplace sexual harassment laws, making it part of ordinary employee duties to provide sex in return for 5 minutes cumulative positive language from their supervisor. That's why it's basically 'Yes sir, I'm all professional sir. [comment about it not being Ashley's fault that the Palestinians don't have a homeland, and that her father would be proud of her if she hadn't happened to have been cloned from two women]. So who's on top?'

VD is entirely correct. Star Trail is the right answer. Even kinda/sorta fits Skyway's requirements: combat, at least, is isometric, even though exploration is first-person.

Similar in some ways, but less complex mechanically and much more story-focused is Betrayal at Krondor. Can't go wrong with either game.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
Star Trail... good choice, good choice. Possibly the best game of its kind and age. Quite possibly.

If you weren't so adamant about TB I'd also recommend Lands of Lore. It's the very prettiest 320x240 game I know - its graphics are simply stunning and timeless. Looks better than Oblivion.

And if that isn't enough of a reason to play it- the king is voiced by CAPTAIN PICARD.

Star Trail is the correct answer. After finishing it, you should play its sequel, Shadows over Riva.

After that try the spidweb games.

I also recommend Lands of Lore, even though its not turnbased. I tiwll fullfill the craving you have.

Played Chaos Gate yet? I assume Jagged Alliance 1/2 are as useful recomendations as the FOs ;)

And for FSM, you could try the M&Ms. I don't concur with stopping at M&M 5 ;)
I don't remember if Bloodwycch was TB...
