Well, it is. And what's so wrong about it? You could have about 3 models or so, normal, fat, and skinny or something. Then just change face, height, hair, and it's done.
As long as you got someone who's capable of making good faces, all's gonna be okay.

Um, you do realize how much it takes to make 10000 different models, do you? Hint - one unique hi-poly humanoid takes about a month to model, texturize and skin.

And disregard the "height" part, significantly different dimensions require a different skeleton and thus wholly new set of animations, meaning many months of animator's work.
