FALLOUT 1 NO SOUND

I have windows XP fallout V1.1 when playing everything works fine, but after a short time (sometimes 10 seconds, other times 3 minutes) of gameplay the sound effects stop working (the music still works, and so does speech)... I've attempted several different things with the Compatability program but nothing seems to work... plz help me get my sound to work

What kind of config do you have?
Onboard sound card?
Does it happen whit other games?
