I haven't played the Super Famicom one since 2001 and don't really remember much about this gaem (got stuck at some point early, quit and deleted it). Has anyone finished this shit an can tell if it's anything beyond generic jrpg mediocrity? And PSX, Saturn rpgs?

I also planned to try PC98 Slayers but it seems that english patch is not available yet (script is fully translated so it's only a matter of time though).

yes plz

I only played the SNES one (never completed it) and I remember thinking it was pretty much your standard fare generic Dragon Quest-esque RPG, with the only real reason to play it being the Slayers trappings.

I've always been interested in the Slayers Royal games (the games for the Saturn/PSX) since some thought seemed to actually be put into its gameplay (its battle-system is tactical) but sadly they were never translated.

I finished it. It's nothing special. You have a bunch of spells to use in combat but most of them are useless, you just spam the biggest one and win. Though I guess that's faithful to the source material. :M
The final dungeon was confusing enough to make me draw a map. And the story was amusing at times. So it's not complete shit.

PC98 Slayers is good. It's not really a RPG though since you don't level up. You start the game powerful which makes sense considering the source material.

They usually do some interesting stuff but you should probably pass if you're a gameplay fag. For example, as mentioned quite a few times already, in a surprising amount of Slayers games you start out at full power instead of leveling up, so that aspect of RPGs is lost. It is kind of original though considering most licensed game will turn you to level 1 and gimp you because standard game design. Slayers lore fags will probably get the most out of the games.
